 Rules Governing Research Project:

1. The research on any of these topics is to be carried out individually or by group two
students.
2. A bonus of 2 Marks in viva will be given to a student that illustrate simulation or
Simulink in Matlab to her/his relative project and explain the code.
3. Students should perform proper citation and referencing for the report content like
images and tables. No plagiarisms should be allowed.
4. Each group must submit a report as per the guidelines mention in “Report Format”
before deadline mention in No.8.
5. Each group must prepare a presentation of not more than ten slides to present
summary and results of the project.
6. Each member of the group must appear for individual viva
7. Marks distribution of report, presentation and viva is as follow
Report: 5 Marks
Presentation: 5 Marks
Viva: 5 Marks
8. Deadline for submission and presentation ………….
9. Late submission will result in penalty of 20% deduction (4 Marks) for the whole group.
B. Project Option
I. Electrical Circuit Modelling and Simulation
For a given electrical circuit:
The choice of the circuit and the values of the components is left to the teacher teaching the
course
Modelling.
1. Draw the equivalent Laplace diagram of the circuit
2. Find the transfer function of the circuit
3. Find the differential equation representing the circuit
Finding response to a given stimulus
4. Apply impulse signal as input to the system represented by above model and find the
output using pen and paper. Draw the calculated response.
5. Apply step signal as input to the system represented by above model and find the
output using pen and paper. Draw the calculated response.
6. Apply sine signal as input to the system represented by above model and find the
output using pen and paper. Draw the calculated response.
7. Discretize the system by applying z transforms with selected sampling time and repeat
step 5 and 6.
Matlab Simulation
8. Simulate Part 4-7 using MatLab to check whether the simulation responses agree with
the calculated response.
9. Find the analytical solution of the differential equation in part 3. And plot the resulted
solution to check whether it agree with the simulation responses of part 8.

II. Signal Generation Using MatLab Without Using the Library Function

For a given signal

The choice of signal and its parameters values is left to the teacher teaching the course

Mathematical Derivation.
1. Write the mathematical expression
2. Write the equivalent expression for the signal in part 1 in term of Fourier
series in all the three forms i.e. trigonometric, harmonic and exponential.
Matlab Simulation
3. Use each of mathematical expressions derived in part 2 (trigonometric,
harmonic and exponential) to plot the signal with MatLab.
4. Plot the signal in part 3 with the number of harmonics 10, 20, 30, 40, 50
and 100 respectively. Write your observation on the shape of the signal with the change
in number of harmonics.
5. Run the codes of part 4 for the time step size 0.01, 0.1, 0.5 respectively.
Write your observation and analysis on computational time.
6. Plot the line spectra of the signal and relate it with the constituent
frequencies.

Rules Governing Practical/Simulation Project:

1. The project is to be carried out individually or in group of not more than three

penalized. (-10%).
3. Each group must submit a report as per the guidelines mention in “Report Format”
before deadline mention in No.7.
4. Each group must prepare a presentation of not more than ten slides to present
summary and results of the project.
5. Each member of the group must appear for individual viva
6. Marks distribution of report, presentation and viva is as follow
Report: 5 Marks
