Start By:
A. Remove the piston pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pump (Hydraulic Fan) -
Remove".
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during

performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service

Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Remove plug assembly (1) .
2. Drain the oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
3. Remove bolts (2) and valve (3) .
Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring
pressure.
Spring force will be released when covers are removed.
Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
4. Remove O-ring seals (4) , spring (6) , and retainer (5) .
5. Remove nut (7) and coil (8) .
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a

released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to

release the spring force.
6. Remove bolts (9) , base (10) , spool (11) , spring (12) , and bushing (13) .

released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to

release the spring force.
7. Remove valve (14) , retainer (15) , spring (16) , retainer (17) , and spool (18) .
8. Remove control arm (19) .
9. Remove bolts (20) , cover (21) , and the O-ring seal.
10. Use Tooling (A) to remove retaining ring (22) . Remove impeller (23) .
11. Remove bolts (24) .
Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring
pressure.
Spring force will be released when covers are removed.
Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
12. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to head (25) .
13. Remove piston (26) , springs (28) and (27) , and piston (29) .
14. Remove rods (30) and (31) , and O-ring seal (32) .
15. Use Tooling (A) to remove retaining ring (33) . Remove bearing (34) .
16. Remove port plate (35) .
17. Remove bolts (37) , cover (38) , and the O-ring seal.

18. Remove cap (39) and the bolt .
19. Repeat Step 18 for the opposite side.
20. Remove swashplate (41) and barrel assembly (40) as a unit.
Note: Mark barrel assembly (40) , pistons (42) , and swashplate (41) for orientation.
21. Remove bolts (36) , retainers (44) , and barrel assembly (40) from swashplate (41) .
22. Remove pistons (42) and retainer plate (43) from barrel assembly (40) .
23. Remove bearing (45) from barrel assembly (40) .
24. Remove springs (46) and shim (47) from barrel assembly (40) .
25. Remove the plugs and retainers (48) .
26. Repeat Step 25 for the opposite side.
27. Remove rods (49) from swashplate (41) .
28. Remove bearings (51) and outer races (52) from housing (50) .
29. Remove bolts (53) , cover (54) , lip seal (55) , and the O-ring seals.
30. Remove bearing (56) and shaft (57) .
31. Use Tooling (C) to remove retaining ring (58) from shaft (57) .
32. Use a suitable press to remove bearing (56) from shaft (57) .
