1 Scope
This Uhde standard applies to the engineering and construction of industrial and chemical plants. It contains
requirements for the design of swivel devices for inspection openings on steel vessels.

2 Terms / Definitions, Units, Abbreviations

2.1 Definitions
The following definitions shall be used in the present Uhde standard:

3 Requirements
3.1 Design instructions
Swivel devices for inspection openings shall be in accordance with DIN 28124-4 if the blind flange of the
opening has a weight of ≥ 25 kg. The following requirements shall also be met:
• In the case of blind flange diameters d2 other than those stated in DIN 28124-4, dimensions l1 and l2 for
vertical design and dimension l1 for horizontal design shall be adapted accordingly.
• In the case of blind flanges with a design pressure higher than the one stated in DIN 28124-4 or in the
case of ANSI blind flanges, the dimensions of the swivel device shall be specified and rated in conformity
with the applicable standard.
• The covers shall be provided with two additional handles as shown in DIN 28124-4 (illustrated by short
dashed line).
• In the case of cold-insulated vessels, if specified in the data sheet (DS), a hinge shall be provided instead
of the swivel device in accordance with DIN 28124-4. Said hinge shall be arranged in such a manner that
free access to the inspection opening and free passage is ensured for the access way.

The hinge thickness and bolt diameter of ANSI blind flanges shall be determined and rated in conformity with
the applicable standard.

3.2 Materials
Any components welded to pressure-bearing vessel components shall be manufactured from the same mate-
rial. All other components shall be manufactured in accordance with DIN 28124-4, table 3.

In the case of vessels with hinged items, the hinge elements shall be manufactured from killed steel at oper-
ating temperatures of –10 °C to 250 °C. Outside this temperature range the vessel material shall be specifi-
cally selected.
