 This is a visual discovery lesson.

 Step 1- Arrange classroom so images will be large and clear

o Students will be viewing this lesson on computers so there is no need to

rearrange the classroom.

o The images in the Google Slides will be clear and large enough for students to

see them clearly.

 Step 2- Use a few powerful images to represent key concepts

o The first 3 slides have images of different types of homes in various

environments.

o Students will look at the images and think about how the environment affects

how people live there. Students will also think about how people affect the

environment they live in.

 Step 3- Ask carefully sequenced questions that lead to discovery

o For each slide, students will be asked the questions:

 What do you see in this image?

 What type of environment is this?

 What type of house is this?

 What materials is it made out of?

 Is there anything about the structure that looks unique?

 How do the environment affect this house and the people that live there?
 Do the people affect the environment around them?

 Step 4- Challenge students to read about the image and apply what they learn

o The next 3 slides have facts and information about various types of housing in

different environments.

o Students will read through the slides to learn more about what they saw in the

images.

o Students can either read the article or watch the video of the read aloud of the

book If You Lived Here: Houses of the World by Giles Laroche.

 Step 5- Have students interact with the images to demonstrate what they have learned

o Students will pick one environment and draw or build a house that would allow

people to live in that environment.

 Students will think about how their house allows people to live in that

environment, and if people affect the environment around them while

living there.

o After the student is done drawing or building, they will show their creation to a

family member or friend.
