English lesson plan

Group: 1st grade

Age: 6 years old

Topic: Tales for life

Objectives:

1. By the end of this lesson the students will be able to say what their favorite
tales are
2. Learners will be introduced to the structure of a tale “exposition –
complication - rising action, crisis…”
3. Learners will review verbs and nouns such as “Wood wolf see hear…and the
senses “smell”

Materials

1. Poster of “Little Red Riding Hood” (See Annex 1)


2. Story “Little Red Riding Hood” printed (See Annex 2)
3. Video of “Little Red Riding Hood” (See Annex 3)
4. Activity of “Little Red Riding Hood” printed (See Annex 4)

Equipment

1. TV and remote controller

Procedures   Time

The teacher shows the poster on “Little Red Riding Hood” and then ask the students if they recognize the

picture. Brainstorm names of tales they have read before. Explain them what “Little Red Riding Hood” means

and the story they are going to work on today.

Activity 1. Read the story: for this part the teacher is going to ask the students to stand-up and follow his

movements while he reads the story. For example: - On her way Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf. ‘Hello!’

said the wolf. The teacher is going to act being Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf and the students are going

to do the same, this way the story is going to be performed by the students by acting it. Next, the teacher is

going to play the video of “Little Red Riding Hood” and then is going to ask the students to read the story with

Core activity / him to check the pronunciation. 35-40

Sequence After, the teacher is going to make clarifications about the new vocabulary on the board. Subsequently, the mins

teacher is going to introduce the structure of a tale; exposition (the introduction of setting, situation and main

characters), complication (the event that introduces the conflict), rising action, crisis (the decisive moment for

the protagonist and his commitment to a course of action), climax (the point of highest interest in terms of the

conflict and the point with the most action) and resolution (the point when the conflict is resolved). The teacher

and the students are going to identify each part of the story together.

 Follow up / Activity 2. The students will be asked to make groups of three (3) and develop the activity (See Annex 4).  30-35
Then, the teacher is going to review and compare the answers using the board, for this part the students are

going to show the others their creation. Finally, the teacher is going to make a feed-back of the story, the

teacher is going to pick-up the activity.

 The teacher is going to write on the board the homework to hand-in for the next class:

4. What is the teaching / moral of this story?

Lesson  The teacher is going to assess the final activity from 1 to 5 where 5 is the highest grade. Then it is going to ask

Annex 2. Tale
Little Red Riding Hood lived in a

wood with her mother. One day

Little Red Riding Hood went to

visit her granny. She had a nice

cake in her basket.

On her way Little Red Riding

Hood met a wolf. ‘Hello!’ said the

wolf. ‘Where are you going?’ ‘I’m

going to see my grandmother.

She lives in a house behind those

trees.

’ The wolf ran to Granny’s house


and ate Granny up. He got into

Granny’s bed.

A little later, Little Red Riding

Hood reached the house. She

looked at the wolf. ‘Granny, what

big eyes you have!’ ‘All the

better to see you with!’ said the

wolf. ‘Granny, what big ears you

have!’ ‘All the better to hear you

with!’ said the wolf. ‘Granny,

what a big nose you have!’ ‘All

the better to smell you with!’

said the wolf. ‘Granny, what big

teeth you have!’ ‘All the better to


eat you with!’ shouted the wolf.

A woodcutter was in the wood.

He heard a loud scream and ran

to the house. The woodcutter hit

the wolf over the head. The wolf

opened his mouth wide and

shouted and Granny jumped out.


The wolf ran away and Little Red

Riding Hood never saw the wolf

again.
