Guide questions:

1. What is it about? And why is it an important aspect to teaching.

Curriculum development is defined as planned, a purposeful, progressive, and

systematic process to create positive improvements in the educational system. Every
time there are changes or developments happening around the world, the school
curricula are affected. There is a need to update them to address the society’s needs.
Foundations are the forces that influence the minds of curriculum developers. The
curriculum reflects the society and culture of a country and this is the desire of a society
that their children should learn the habits, ideas, attitudes and skills of the adult society
and culture and educational institutional are the proper way to impart these skill. It is the
duty of teacher and school to discipline the young of the society and provide them the
set of experiences in the form of curriculum. The needs, knowledge and information of
the society provide foundation in the formation of curriculum.
Curriculum development has a broad scope because it is not only about the
school, the learners, and the teachers. It is also about the development of society in
general. In today’s knowledge economy, curriculum development plays a vital role in
improving the economy of a country. It also provides answers or solutions to the world’s
pressing conditions and problems, such as environment, politics, socio-economics, and
other issues of poverty, climate change, and sustainable development. Crafting
curriculum emphasizes the creative problem-solving skills of the student, the completion
of different design tasks and the implementation of designs, while seeking to nurture the
student’s self-esteem. Furthermore, students should draw up the designs for their
artifacts, plan their work, and also develop designs when needed. These aims can be
accomplished by teachers diligently teaching the designing of craft products.
2. How is it applied in teaching?

The curriculum designed by the teacher helps to generate new ways and
materials from the analysis of teaching learning problem and formulating new
approaches for teaching and learning process. One of the characteristics of curriculum
is being dynamic. Because of this, teachers should respond to the changes that occur in
school and in its context. Schools and school systems grow and develop in proportion to
their ability to respond to change and adapt to changing conditions. Society and its
institutions continuously encounter problems to which they must respond. Examples of
decisions curriculum developers must make include what to teach, what philosophy or
point of view to support, how to differentiate for special populations, what methods or
strategies to use to deliver the curriculum, and what type of school organization best
supports the curriculum.

3. Give examples of classroom activities in the Philippine schools.

Some examples of classroom activities that involves curriculum crafting are all of
the activities done by the student and the teacher from the start until the end of the
class. Depending on how broadly educators define or employ the
term, curriculum typically refers to the knowledge and skills students are expected to
learn, which includes the learning standards or learning objectives they are expected to
meet; the units and lessons that teachers teach; the assignments and projects given to
students; the books, materials, videos, presentations, and readings used in a course.

4. Give your reflection based on your reading discoveries.

Curriculum refers to the lessons and academic content taught in a school or in a

specific course or program and a plan that consists of learning opportunities for a
specific timeframe and place, a tool that aims to bring about behavioral changes in
students as a result of planned activities and includes all learning experiences received
by students with the guidance of the school. Because the curriculum is dynamic,
schools must be relevant by making its curriculum more innovative and interdisciplinary.
The K-12 curriculum advances the students to the diversities of global learners.
Globalization has impelled countries to new their educational systems especially as new
knowledge, skills and attitudes are needed in an increasingly competitive and diversified
world economy. Curriculum development resides solidly focused approach to instruction
and learning. It goes on the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of a
curriculum. The curriculum is crafted through decision a made by the stakeholders
including parents, students and agencies in society, apart from the conventional
ensemble of school.
