DECISION MAKING
The decision making system is important for an organization, if it is to succeed. Customarily there are
two extremes:
a. Centralized decision making
b. Decentralized decision making
At Alkaram Textiles it was strongly felt that the organization follows the centralized
system. Chairman and Directors are all in the organizational decisions. Even routine and daily affairs
are to be approved from the Top level management. DY Managers and Assistant Managers have little
power to make decisions only related to on-line production.

8
EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT AND ALKARAM TEXTILES:
The term external environment refers to factors and forces outside the organization that affect its
performance. It includes several different components. Such as:

I. Economic Factors
The economic component encompasses factors such as interest rates, inflation, changes in
disposable income, stock market fluctuations, and business cycle stages. Depreciation of
Pakistani rupee has raised the cost of imported inputs and makes it difficult for the company to
hold the market share.

II. Demographic Factors

The demographic component is concerned with trends in population characteristics such as age,
race, gender, education level, geographic location, income, and family composition. The rapid
change in the lifestyle and needs in different demographics also affect the demand of the
customers. Due to all these changes Alkaram Textiles is performing excellent for the excellence
organization as well as for the customer. With focus on modern women's personal and home
improvement needs, Alkaram Textiles offers the best brands under one roof for cosmetics.

III. Energy Crises

In recent years, the local providers of electricity have faced several issues in generating sufficient
quantities of power for the country. Alkaram Textiles has installed its own in-house co-generation
plant consisting of two 3.3 MW Solar-Caterpillar gas turbines and a Waste Heat Recovery Boiler.
Additional gas turbines and waste heat-recovery systems were also installed, resulting in a lower load
on the national electricity provider and highly efficient usage of energy.

IV. Global Recession

Global recession has badly affected the textile sector of Pakistan. This recession caused a very high
rate of inflation, ultimately it cause increase in the Alkaram Textiles’s product cost.

V. Domestic Issues
The State Bank of Pakistan has withdrawn export financing on all types of yarn. Moreover, all
Banking Companies offer a very high rate of mark up to all Textile Industries. There are a huge
number of problems that our Textile Industry is facing with respect to taxation. The greatest issue is
that there is almost no tax on exports that discourages the local industry to compete in international
market.
VI. Law and Order Situation

Deteriorating political, law and order situation in the Country is one of the major reasons of Industrial
down turn. Industrial activity cannot flourish in an atmosphere of disturbances and fear. Law and

9
order situation demonstrated after Benazir’s assassination and became worse day by day in previous
govt. This affected the company’s production badly and company lost its market share. Pakistan's
textile exports have gone down during last govt. Exporters cannot effectively market their
products since buyers are not visiting Pakistan due to adverse travel advisory and it is getting
more and more difficult for the exporters to travel abroad. But now The European Union GSP
Plus status allows almost 20 per cent of Pakistani exports to enter the EU market at zero tariff and
70 per cent at preferential rates, its help company to increase its export volume.

MAJOR COMPETITORS
 Nishat Mills
 Gul Ahmed textile
 Sana Safinaz
 Khadi
 Sitara Mills
 Firdous Lawn
 Kohinoor Mills

The industry is also facing competition from other developing countries like Bangladesh,
India and China in its major export markets i.e. the EU and the USA. Also the current
recession in the West has resulted in a slowdown in demand for textile products.currently this
industry is facing great decline in its growth rate. The major reasons for this decline can be
the global recession, internal security concerns, the high cost of production due to increase in
the energy costs etc.

THREATS

New competitors
Alkaram Textiles’s competitors are Nishat, GulAhmed, Arzoo, Sitara, Kohinoor, Amtex but main
competitors are" Nishat Textile Mills and GulAhmed Textiles". Though Alkaram Textiles’s cannot
avoid competition but can stay ahead of them by reforming their strategies and educating our
entrepreneurs so as to move one step forward in every aspect.

Fashion life cycle

Today costumer is now more fashion conscious and more consumerist. Fashion changes day by day
these days. Among the most thriving segments of the apparel industry is the lawn business. Lawn
campaign advertisements have swept over the country. This has resulted in shortening the fashion
lifecycle thus increasing the fashion risk.
Marketing:
The local industry has been significantly influenced by international marketing methods and
strategies. Effective media campaigns and advertisement is essential for Imperial and textile industries

10
to promote their product.  The aggressive advertising has resulted in rising consumerist behaviour
among the customer and strong customer loyalty to the product.

OPPERTUNITIES:

 Organization can expand product lines. Currently the Nishat not dealing in knitwear they can
expand their product line by producing knitwear. They have plants and the extra cost for the
production will be low for Nishat. And they also have better market repute.
 Organization can reduce the cost by proper utilization of resources. If the cost of different
matters which is not utilizing properly is controlled by the Nishat management they can produce
more in a few costs. It has to develop a further systematic process for controlling and managing
resources.
 Organization can hire more well-educated and experienced person. They can take advantages by
hiring more skilled people and they should hire young, fresh and energetic staff for their
betterment.
 Targeting the unexplored export markets with the help of aggressive sales and marketing will
pave the way for the textile growth.

11

design. It is manufacturing high quality products at low cost for valuable customers. It has done a lot
