Forming a relationship with God and walking with Him

“ You may not understand now what I am doing, but someday, you will”
-John 13:7

Growing through knowledge and wisdom

Forming a relationship with God can seem like an intimidating task. With such a
powerful, beautiful, and glorious God, it’s easy to think that there is no way that God has time
for you. I want you to think again. God created the mountains, the oceans, the sky and also
thought that the world needed one of you. God has time for you if you make time for him.
Forming a relationship with God costs no money all it takes is time and being open to grow in
the presence of a challenge and through him. While forming a relationship with God the word
‘salvation’ comes up a lot. Now what is salvation? Salvation is deliverance or saving from sin and
its consequences. God understands that his children will make mistakes that they may sin but
he knows that growth and building wisdom from those sins and mistakes is what can make a
relationship with Him great.
A big mistake that biblical counselor Steve Leavitt believes people make is assuming
forming a relationship with God has a lot to do with emotions. What he means by this, is how
your relationship with God should not be judged by how you are doing internally in your
personal life. God does amazing things in everyone's lives with or without them knowing. If you
are having a bad day, week, month, or whatever it may be, many times that’sGod speaking to you
about a lesson that you should learn or recognize. Talking to God causes God to speak back and
all you have to do is listen.

Here are some things you can do to aid you in forming a relationship with God

1. Read the Bible. The bible isn’t just a book full of dreams or stories that people
thought God was a part of. 2 Timothy 3:16, the Apostle Paul writes, “All
Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” In 2017 I got baptized
and when I asked one of the pastors about the bible being inspired by God he
explained to me that God set those expectations, challenges. Words of wisdom
and help into this world for us.
2. Talk to God and listen to what he’s saying. Life gives us some crazy curve balls.
When finances are hard, when there is a death in the family, job loss, etc, it’s easy
to say ‘God why are you doing this to me?” what we should be saying is “God
what are you trying to teach me?’
3. Worship. Wether this word means going to church or staying home and reading
the bible, listening to gospel music, or whatever your way of worship may be,
worshipping is important. It’s your portal to God and during worship your
relationship with God will further and you’ll be able to understand and set your
intentions for the week, the day, the year, and what you are being gifted by Him.
