What started as an epidemic mainly limited to China has now become a truly pandemic that not only has impacted the global economy but
also our day-to-day lives where more than 200,000 deaths has been recorded. All indications so far are that the new virus came from a
seafood stall in Wuhan, China. Since the first case was discovered in December within the city, and several more cases within the same
City soon after. Though, there have been a lot of stories speculating on how COVID-19 began. Among the stories was that new coronavirus
which caused COVID-19 was created as a potential bioweapon by China. While another story says that the outbreak of new coronavirus
occurred as a result of an accident at a Wuhan research laboratory that could have transmitted a deadly bat virus collected for a scientific
experiment. Though there is no substantial evidence to back up those stories but according to U.S. intelligence officials, they suggest that
the prime suspect is natural transmission from bats to humans either directly or indirectly. The new cronavirus is known to infect both
animals and humans, and cause respiratory disease in humans ranging from common colds to far more severe infections. Although
symptoms of coronaviruses are often mild; the most common symptoms are dry cough and a fever, in some cases they lead to more
serious respiratory tract illness including pneumonia, bronchitis and death. People of any age may be infected by the new coronavirus.
However, positive people are at a high danger for a severe infection if they may be capture COVID-19 and would need to be hospitalized.
These are older people, mostly those over 60 years. The second group of people that are at a high risk are people with underlying medical
conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart disease, etc. it has been found that the younger ones without any pre-existing illness would only
experience mild illness according to authorities but this is changing lately especially the obese. More than 2million people have been
infected with virus across 200 countries with Unites States having the highest number cases of more than 800,000 cases. This new
coronavirus spread through infected air and fluid droplets and as such are easily transmitted by sneezing and coughing. Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) summarizes how a person can be infected as follows; air through coughing and sneezing, close
contact with an infected person and contact with objects that have the virus on them. People catch the virus after they contact their infected
hands to their mouth, nose or eyes or breathe in the virus. Everyday more people are liable to catching the virus and there is currently no
approved vaccine for COVID 19. The fast spread of this new virus is that even people who are infected but without symptoms can transmit it
to others. In order to curb or reduce the spread, CDC recommended the following precautions: Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands
with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water; this is to help to viruses that may be on your hands. Also maintaining at
least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone can help in reducing the spread of the virus. The reason is that when someone
coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their mouth or nose which may contain the virus. If you're too close, you could
breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus. if the man or woman coughing or sneezing has the disease. Another precaution is to
avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with hands because hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands
can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth.
