Dan Badulescu

Born in Mexico City in 1959, I have spent a number of years enjoying a variety
of jobs and activities in several different fields, having grown up in a
multicultural environment, with a Romanian father and a Mexican mother, I have
always had fun moving around the world.

I am currently carrying PhD studies at UBC in multidisciplinary fields, covering

policy, governance, agriculture and environment. I am looking at the GM foods
controversies in countries like Brazil, Canada and Mexico.

I hold masters from 2 British universities, Reading and Bristol, where I did
biology and political science degrees, through scholarships from the British and
Mexican governments and corporate grants as well as studies in marketing,
strategy and foreign affairs. My first degree was obtained in Mexico in
agricultural engineering and had previously spent 1 year in Europe, mainly
Germany in coop programs at family owned wineries.

In the last few years I have worked in several different areas, ranging from
running multinational corporations in the chemical and agricultural fields, to
heading United Nations regional efforts to raise funds for Unicef in Mexico and
Cuba, to being active in education at universities in the Americas. I have also
been involved as a diplomat active in the areas of education, arts and
technology transfer. I have been lucky enough to participate in fascinating
projects arising from NAFTA negotiations, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the
design of a federal ministry for environment and some other.

Currently, I manage a consultancy company with offices in Latin America and

Canada, we do work in several areas but mainly in public policy and business
strategy development arenas for international clients.
I speak Spanish, German, English, have 2 kids 14 and 16 years of age, my wife
is also at UBC and is active in education, psychology and consulting.

I love to travel, cook, understand cultures and learn from them, reading and
music, soccer, swimming are favorite pastimes, having friends around and
hopefully contributing to eradicate poverty and clean the environment.
