CAÑA BRAVA Hydroelectric Power Plant H5

Description: Is a new hydropower project connected to the grid with an installed capacity and estimated generation of 5.6 MW and 38 GWh per year,
respectively. It will be located in the department of Cajamarca.

Current Status: Projects Benefits:

Earliest project start date: November 2008.
Operation start date: February 2009.
Project lifetime: 40 years.
Current Status: Energy and Water concession have been issued. DNA
approval was obtained. Registered at the Executive Board on February,
2008.
Estimated Annual Emission Reductions (tCO2/year):
An average of 22,622 tCO2-equivalent per year.
Project Participant and Financing
Total project cost: US$ 9,500,000
Number of direct and indirect jobs generated:
It will generate around 300 to 400 local jobs and more economic activi-
ty in surrounding towns, plus 50 jobs for maintenance work.
Sustainable development contribution:
It increases possibilities for rural electrification around the project site.
It will improve the irrigation system of La Ramada area.
It introduces a new energy generation source with more reliability and
quality to the current distribution electric system.
