Higher Awareness Manifesting Abundance Workbook

Part 2 - Prosperity Thinking

2.1 Explore your money consciousness

“What we’re after in Prospering is nothing less than a major shift in
consciousness—in the attitudes, beliefs, and ideas you have about yourself
and your relationship to money.” – Jerrold Mundis

Welcome to the next leg of our journey on creating more prosperity and abundance.
Let’s step back and look at the bigger picture of what we are attempting to do.

Ultimately, we all want to experience abundance—not just of money but also of joy,
meaning, beauty and health. To do this, we must expand our spiritual awareness.

In Part 3, we will look at manifestation and abundance from the spiritual perspective.
We’ll consider how we can align with our essence and purpose, and with universal
and natural laws of the universe. We’ll begin to see the power of love, service and the
surrender of our personal will to divine will as the true forces behind our ability to
live in abundance.

Before we can get to this high level of co-creating and manifesting, however, we first
need to develop ourselves physically, emotionally and mentally. Part 1 on Managing
Money addressed our physical relationship with money—how to begin to put our
finances in order. We need to learn to cope with the reality of our financial
circumstances, and to become responsible and accountable for looking after ourselves.

Once we bring some order to this outer realm, we can then focus attention on the inner
realm—on what goes on inside us. This stage can bring whole new dimensions of
meaning to our lives, as we become aware of how our thinking and our emotions
create our reality. When we understand that our experiences are largely a result of our
own projections, we are no longer so likely to see ourselves as powerless victims. We
can learn to heal our self-sabotaging behaviours and to consciously set a positive new
direction for our lives.

The coping techniques of the first leg will not move us forward as far as we want to
go. We need special tools to heighten awareness, develop our imagination and explore
our authentic selves. We need to work on balancing the dualities of life. We also must
give attention to clearing out the programs in the subconscious mind that filter and
distort our higher guidance.

And so this second part of our program deals with our mental and emotional ties with
money. As we’ve said, our thoughts and emotions have the power to create. Your
current level of prosperity reflects who you are right now. It mirrors the beliefs,
attitudes and feelings about money and abundance that exist at the core of your being.

Higher Awareness Manifesting Abundance Workbook

You may or may not be conscious of these beliefs—most of us aren’t. It’s essential
that we become aware of them. Only then do we have the power to intentionally
create a belief system that reflects what we most want for our lives.

If our belief systems about money largely determine our level of prosperity, you may
be wondering why this section wasn’t presented first. Well, it’s almost impossible to
change our thinking when we’re stuck in personal and financial denial, confusion and
distress. Getting control of the way we handle money gives us more space and
freedom to become aware of deeper issues regarding its role in our lives.

Are you ready to be prosperous? You can have more. Not just more money but more
energy, peace, passion and joy.

Here’s how we have structured this section. We’re going to explore:

- our present beliefs and attitudes around money

- our passions and strengths in life
- techniques for programming new and positive prosperity messages into the
subconscious
- ways of developing higher mind and higher awareness that move us
towards abundance.

2.2 What do you think and feel about money?

“Your emotional state ultimately determines your financial state.”
– Suze Orman

Let’s begin by taking an honest look at how we think and feel about money. In the last
section, you defined the objective facts of your financial situation. This time, we want
to examine the subjective side.

This is a more challenging assignment than becoming aware of the state of our
money. As we have said previously, many of our beliefs are not consciously known to
us, so we have to uncover them.

How do we become conscious of something that is unconscious? We watch our

behaviour and our emotions for clues. We must explore the subconscious mind
indirectly. We’ll guide your explorations with exercises and smart questions.

EXERCISE:
In your journal, sketch out a history of your relationship with money, and
note any thoughts and feelings that come up as you record the facts.
Consider, for example:

Higher Awareness Manifesting Abundance Workbook

- What was your family’s financial situation as you were growing up

and how did you feel about it?
- How do you feel about the level of income you have earned
throughout your life? How well have your earnings met your needs,
and how do you feel about this?
- How does the way you handle money relate to the way your parents
or guardians did? Have you followed in their footsteps? Do you
behave in an opposite way in reaction to them?
- Has your work and income generally matched your skills and level of
education? It there hasn’t been a good match, how do you feel about
this?
- Has your income appropriately reflected your contribution?
- Include in your history your financial connection with others in your
life, if that’s relevant. Have you typically supported others or have
others supported you? How have you felt about these financial
relationships?
- How do you feel about paying attention to how you handle money?

After you have completed your financial history, review what you have
written. Do you see any patterns? What do they tell you about your
thoughts and feelings around money?

EXERCISE:
Now answer the following smart questions in your journal:

1. How would you typically describe your feelings about money?

Use as many descriptors as you can. Now review the words you’ve
written. Are they primarily positive or negative?
2. How secure do you feel about your financial state now and for the
future? As examples, do you believe you’ll always have what you
need? Are you afraid or convinced that there will never be
enough?
3. In what ways does money rule your life?
4. Has the power of money hurt your relationships, your health, your
work, your self-respect?
5. Are you able to talk about your financial situation with others? If
not, why not?
6. Do you feel that you deserve to be affluent? If not, why not?
7. How do you feel when you have money available to you, in
savings or to spend?
8. How do you feel when you do not have as much money as you
need? As much money as you want?

Higher Awareness Manifesting Abundance Workbook

9. When you feel out of control in your life, do you react by

overspending or under-spending?
10. Do you use money to buy love or respect? If so, how?
11. If an opportunity to make money comes along, are you able to say
yes? Are you able to say no?
12. Do you resent the rich? Do you resent the poor?

You might start some of your sentences with “Money is ….”

You may want to return to your previous notes from Section 1.1 and 1.2.
What else comes to mind as you review this material?

EXERCISE:
The following exercise deepens awareness of your thoughts and feelings
about money.

1. Identify a trigger that happens at least 3 to 10 times per day, such as

buying something, a phone ringing, writing, eating, drinking water,
etc. Each time it occurs, go to the next step.
2. Take a few deep breaths, check in and write about your feelings,
thoughts, motives, attitudes and moods about money.
3. Do this for 3 to 5 days.
4. Review your notes and then write a summary of what you have
learned through this process.

These exercises are designed to heighten your awareness of how you typically react to
money and financial issues. As we become aware of our patterns, we can explore why
we react the way we do. And this leads us to an understanding of the fundamental
beliefs we hold that govern our level of abundance.

Please complete the questions and exercises. Write a short summary after you
complete each exercise. Periodically review all of your notes. This may feel
overwhelming but that’s good! It creates an inner tension that will foster a higher
level of synthesis. And this, in turn, will bring you a higher perspective that will draw
more prosperity to you.

Set an intention to be more aware of your thoughts and feelings around money matters
as you move through each day. Make notes as you become more conscious of your
relationship with money.

What do you believe about money?

“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”

– William Shakespeare

What do you believe about money? About yourself and money?

The beliefs we hold in our subconscious minds create our reality. Your beliefs about
money and about yourself in connection with money determine how you attract it,
spend it and relate to it. And because our beliefs create our reality, you will have lots
of ‘proof’ that what you believe is correct because the evidence of it will be playing
out before your eyes.

But here lies the gift. If you don’t like the reality you are now experiencing around
money, you have the power to change that reality by changing your beliefs and
attitudes.

Once again, the challenge is that we often don’t know what old belief systems are
lodged in our subconscious. It helps to reflect on our past, particularly when we were
impressionable in childhood, to identify the financial beliefs we grew up with. More
importantly, we need to watch ourselves now—our actions, thoughts and emotions—
for clues that will identify the programs we want to change. Life is always bringing us
opportunities to live in new ways.

EXERCISES:
1. Quickly scan the list of common proverbs on money provided in
Appendix 1. Which ones catch your attention? Consider what beliefs
you hold related to these messages.
2. Now scan the list of common belief statements around money in
Appendix 2. Again note the statements that draw your attention.
3. Journal about your insights from these reviews. Then write a 2 to 3
line summary.
4. In your journal, write about how money relates to each of the
following words for life in general and for your life in particular:
- happiness
- unhappiness
- power
- success
- sex appeal
- God, spirituality
- self-worth
- security
- social standing
- evil

- control
- love
- respect

What you believe about money is up to you. There are no right or wrong answers.
What’s important is that you know what programs are running in your subconscious
so you can change any beliefs that work against your aspirations.

“If you don’t change your beliefs, your life will be like this forever. Is that
good news?” – Dr. Robert Anthony

Do you see yourself as a victim?

“Responsibility walks hand in hand with capacity and power.”

– Josiah Gilbert Holland

Our first section was designed to help you take responsibility for your finances. This
time around, we are going to take responsibility for our attitudes around money. It is
essential that we take ownership of all aspects of both our financial problems and
successes. Whatever problems we may have, we must fully grasp that we are the ones
who have created them.

Taking responsibility means refusing to see yourself as a victim. Refuse to blame

other people or circumstances for your situation. We must understand that our worlds
mirror our beliefs back to us. Each of us projects our unconscious fears, wounding
and life challenges onto other people and things because this is one way we can see
them! If you find yourself truly upset that your boss doesn’t pay you enough or that
your spouse spends too much, look inside for the source of your difficulties. If you
have personal anxiety with something on the outside, your anxiety is your problem,
and you are the one who needs to resolve it. Stay grounded. Stay aware. Stay
detached. Stay accountable.

Taking responsibility for your situation means that you are willing to do something
about it. Victims are passive; they believe that something or someone outside of them
wields the power and that they themselves are powerless. With self-responsibility, you
claim your own power through the choices you make. You recognize that if you want
something to change, you have to make the change happen.

EXERCISE:
Make a list of people or things you consider responsible for your financial
difficulties: the economy, the government, taxes, your health, your boss,

39

your company, your partner, your parents, your children, your accountant,
accidents, your I.Q., education, etc. Make a complete list.

Need help in recognizing how you may be playing the victim? See our
resource list of Prosperity Victim Statements in Appendix 3. Quickly scan
the list and mark those that catch your attention.

Go through your two victim lists. Do you see any common themes? What
beliefs lie below this behaviour? Write about them in your journal. Now
consider what pay-offs you are getting by playing the victim. How is your
identity tied into your financial challenges? How does your suffering get
you the attention and benefits you crave?

The purpose of seeing how we play the victim is not to make us feel badly about
ourselves. Remember that we need to be aware of our beliefs and patterns before we
have the power to change them. A first step in bringing change lies in acceptance of
who we are at this time. Face the reality of what’s happening in your life—without
judgment. We can’t let our victim mentality go until we acknowledge we have it in
the first place.

“People never awaken until they tire of their drama.” – James Thornton

“Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.” – Brendan Francis

Assess your self-worth

“You get no more and no less than what you believe you deserve.”
– Dan Millman

Your self-worth is determined by your overall sense of your own value, by how
worthy you consider yourself to be. In his book Everyday Enlightenment, Dan
Millman says, “… our sense of self-worth is the single most important determinant of
the health, abundance, and joy we allow into our lives.”

As a human being, as spirit manifested in form, you are innately worthy. Your
worthiness does not have to be proven, strengthened or improved. However, you may
not perceive yourself to be worthy and deserving. If you doubt your self-worth,
consciously or unconsciously, you will limit the good things you will allow into your
life. You will send out a silent but powerful message that you don’t deserve a good
income, a new house or a special partner. If you feel that you’re not good enough, you
may spend more than you have in an attempt to feel better. If you believe you don’t
deserve what you have, you will never really enjoy it. Furthermore, you may find
some way to sabotage your situation so you lose those good people or things.

Higher Awareness Manifesting Abundance Workbook

The bottom line is: Subconsciously, you will choose or attract into your life the
circumstances you believe you deserve and nothing more.

So, what do you believe you deserve to get from life? If you want to be rich, you must
whole-heartedly ask for it and expect to get it. You may also need to ask more of
yourself.

EXERCISE:
Take some time to explore your feelings of self-worth in your journal. It
may help to answer these questions:

1. Do you find it easier to give than to receive? If so, why?

2. How do you fear success?
3. In what ways do you sabotage your chances for increased
prosperity?
4. If you had lots of money, would you feel guilty? If so, why?
5. Do you feel driven to improve yourself? If so, what motivates
this?
6. How much do you deserve to earn? Why not more?
7. Imagine receiving a gift of $5 million. How would you feel?
8. Do you value other people’s time more highly than your own? Do
you consider wealthy people to be more deserving than you are? If
so, why?

“I have never been contained except I made the prison.” – Mary Evans

“Discovering your worth sets your spirit free.” – Dan Millman

Revisit your fears around money

“If a man is after money, he’s money mad; if he keeps it, he’s a capitalist;
if he spends it, he’s a playboy; if he doesn’t get it, he’s a never-do-well; if
he doesn’t try to get it, he lacks ambition. If he gets it without working for
it; he’s a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a lifetime of hard work,
people call him a fool who never got anything out of life.” – Vic Oliver

You just can’t win, right? Wrong! But deep down inside, what fears affect your
relationship with money? We explored fears early in this e-book, but now that you’ve
done so much exploring to heighten your awareness, let’s consider them again.

Higher Awareness Manifesting Abundance Workbook

EXERCISE:
Write about your greatest fears around money, and see what comes up. If
emotions surface, as they undoubtedly will, let them come. Really feel
your feelings. They’ll give you valuable information. After you’ve taken
the time to feel your emotions, write about the messages they’ve brought.

Devote one or two sessions of journaling to exploring your fears around

money. After you’re done, go back and review what you’ve written. Do
any more insights arise?

Our fears control us until we stand and face them and muster the courage to act
anyway. Recognize that any conclusions you drew as a child may no longer be
appropriate for your life. Claim your power to think differently. Affirm a new reality
for yourself.

“We are all powerless as children, and money looms so powerfully… we

don’t grow up to claim our financial power until we look money directly
in the eye, face our fears, and claim that power back.” – Suze Orman

2.3 Change Perspectives for Pursuing Prosperity

Release the pain with forgiveness

Thus far in this program, we have been establishing a foundation to understand where
you are now in your relationship with money. Undoubtedly, this has not been easy for
you. If you weren’t struggling with this issue, you wouldn’t be taking this program!

At this point, we’re ready to make peace with our past and present, and take the steps
to create a new and better future. A first and essential step to pave the way for a new
reality is to allow ourselves to feel the pain our financial struggles have brought to us.
Honestly acknowledging and experiencing our feelings helps release the pain and
shame we have been carrying inside.

Once we have honoured the pain, we can then forgive the experiences that generated
the pain. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you may have made around finances.
Forgive others as well. Let the memories, the pain and the limitations go. Forgive
what’s happened to date so you can create a brand new and positive financial future
for yourself.

Forgiveness is best achieved through an intention made more powerful through ritual
of some kind. If you are so inclined, you might ask for forgiveness through prayer or
