Reflection:
The topic of the lesson was about the holidays' activities. I taught grade six students and my
learning objectives were to identify gerunds, to recognize the new vocabulary and to create
sentences using the new vocabulary (gerunds). I started the lesson by presenting a video to
allow students guess the topic of the lesson. Then, I clarified the meaning and the use of the
gerunds. After that, I explained the new vocabulary using pictures and providing definitions.
This was one of my strength points because visual aids are an effective strategy that helps
teacher to engage students and simplify the learning process (Hall, M. 2013). In addition, I
implemented a game, which was "Reply for Words". In this game, students needed to select the
correct word card from the new vocabulary they have learned after hearing its definition from
me. Games are powerful tool that supports and motivates students to learn (Wheadon, D. 2017).
I believe that students are actively participate in something they are interested with like learning
games.

However, I made some mistakes in my lesson. Students had some difficulties to perform the last
activity in which they needed to write sentences using the new vocabulary (gerunds). I believe
this was because I did not provide more sentences as examples for them using the whiteboard
and explain the structure of these sentences. Moreover, when students were playing "Reply for
Words", some students did not have enough space to walk through, so the time was over before
they could select the correct word. Therefore, in my future teaching, I will provide more
activities for students to practice the new lessons. Furthermore, I will make sure to make the
classroom environment is appropriate for all students to play.
