Task 3: Reflection on teaching competencies while on online TP

Online learning has become a popular way for both students to improve their
education and teachers to advance their professional skills (Cooper, 2016). However,
teaching an online class requires applying various methods and strategies from the
traditional classroom. Thus, it is essential that teachers develop and adapt their skills
to the online learning environment, resources and materials to engage the students
effectively (Cooper, 2016).

The first thing that teachers need to consider is time management. It can be done
though scheduling the daily tasks and duties in which they know exactly what they
have to do each day in a particular time. This will provide an extra time for teachers to
review their lesson plans to adjust and modify them for the better. Based on my online
teaching practice, I created a timetable that showed me what I have to do every day.
Also, I used to set a specific time for students to do their tasks in each stage to achieve
my lessons objectives. Second, it is important that teachers preparing and planning for
learning for every lesson. They need to focus on their learning objectives; hence, they
can create relevant activities that give them the opportunity to ensure accomplishing
their learning objectives.

Third, providing a supportive online learning environment is necessary as well. The

best way to accomplish this goal is by encouraging students' interaction with each
other and with the teachers. My MCT used to set up small online groups and allowed
us to discuss and share our ideas together through talking using the mic, which helped
us to perform the different tasks. Forth, checking students understanding of the new
concepts and information they have taken through assessments is a must for the
learning success. According to my online classes, I prepared some formative and
summative assessments, which were relevant to my lesson objectives to assess
students understanding, thus, ensure that I achieved my learning objectives.

Finally, reflecting on teaching is a fundamental factor of teaching and learning

improvements. Teachers need to reflect on the lessons they have taught considering
the areas that need to be improved to find the suitable strategies and techniques that
help them to address these areas. I used to reflect on my lessons immediately, so I do
not forget the most important events and areas that I need to improve.
