My Personal Philosophy
Personal Philosophy EDU 203 2
Throughout the courses that I have taken towards becoming a teacher I have seen and understood
that being a teacher is not easy job for just anyone to do. Being a teacher is a big responsibility
for anyone looking to become a teacher. Apart from the responsibility I think people have to
have certain qualities and goals they want to accomplish through their teaching years.
My philosophy on how people with disabilities should be educated in the school system is by
giving those people the equal opportunity that any other person without a disability would get.
What I mean with equal opportunity as any other person is that even if that person has a
disability they should not be looked down upon or seen as incapable of doing something. People
with disabilities may need a bit of extra help or time to complete a certain task, but that should
not take away the opportunity a person with a disability is actually able to do.
I think the outstanding purpose of special education in our society is to help people with
disabilities transition into the real world, and to be able to join into the real world whether it is
applying for a job, going to college, or opening their own bank account.
My approaches to my future students learning would be to always make sure that every student
class during the week. I would also ask that in the back of the quiz my students tell me their
opinion of what they found easy, hard, and they completely did not understand from what they
learned. Based on the quiz I would be able to know whether my lessons are confusing and don’t
work well with the classroom or that I need to work with students individually.
The way I would approach my student’s diversity is by having class assignments that fit in with
my lesson plan to teach my students about different countries and their different cultures. I would
then assign group projects over different countries that they can research and present to the
class. I would also approach my student’s diversity by having an activity where each student has

a writing assignment about their own culture, holidays they celebrate, and what they do during
their holidays. Through this assignment I would also have them draw out or bring pictures that
have a lot of value to them and have each student share with the class about their culture.
I personally think that the qualities that I would need to possess in moving forward with my
career as a teacher is having a passion to teach students no matter what type of difficulties there
can be. In having a passion to teach children, right away I know that I am able to move forward
with my career. I would also need to have the quality of being understanding to my student’s
needs. There will be a lot of children with different needs whether they are, emotional needs,
learning need, or financial needs it is up to me as a teacher to help my students the best way
possible. Organization is also a quality that I would need to possess in making sure to stay on
task with my lessons and my students learning. Being organized wouldn’t just help me in moving
forward with my career, but to also keep track of each student’s progress.
My personal philosophy has changed since the beginning of my introduction to special education
course. The reason my personal philosophy has changed is because the course has given me
more of an insight on students with special needs and the different type of disabilities that many
student may have or have. I used to not have a well understanding of the different acronyms that
are used to describe a child’s disability but I have a better understanding with the of the course.
The way the course has changed my personal philosophy is by making me more aware of the
different help that many students need, and what I need to do to be an understanding supportive
teacher.
I believe that all students are able to learn. The special education course has been taught me a lot
about how all students are able to learn even if it means that the teacher has to make
accommodations to their learning whether its giving the students extra time on a test, having a

seating arrangement, assignments being explain directly etc. it’s up to a teacher to believe that
every student is able to learn and I believe that every students is able to learn through the help of
My goals for my future students with special education needs is to just simply provided the best
help I can possibly give to the student and a fun learning environment where they feel welcomed
along with the rest of the class. My goal as a future teacher is to see my students progress over
time whether it’s a little bit or a lot my goal is to give them the best education they can receive.
Another goal I find very important is making my classroom into a friendly welcoming
environment where student don’t have to feel different from others even if they need a bit of
extra help. It’s important that students feel welcomed into the classroom because it encourages
I believe that students with special needs learn best when they are in a classroom that is friendly
and welcoming. Special needs students also learn best when the teacher is understanding of their
difficulties to learn than other students with no special needs. When children feel the lack of
support of the teacher or that the classroom feels unwelcoming, they become less encouraged to
The role of a special education teacher is to meet up to the goals that are establishes for a special
need students’ IEP. Collaborate with the regular education teacher to establish a plan in which
they can both help the student. The special education teacher specifically focuses on the students
with special needs and helping them with assignments the regular education teacher may assign.
A quality that an effective special education teacher should have is a passion to teach because if
they love to teach it makes it very easy for those teachers to help their students and not feel like

they are not able to handle or meet up to their students educational needs. An effective special
