Research Questions

These are the formulated questions for this study:

1. Is there any significant relationship between learning style and memory?

2. Which of the two learning styles results to positive outcome in terms of human
memorization?
3. Is learning style-based instruction effective?

Hypothesis

Ho

There is no significant relationship between learning styles and memory.

H1

There is significant relationship between learning styles and memory.

Research Design

This study will utilize Experimental Research Design. The Experimental study is a research
which has the purpose to find the cause and effect relationship among variables in a controlled
condition. In Experimental Research Design, the researchers will deliberately control and
manipulate the conditions.

In this study, the independent variable is the Auditory Listening and Auditory Visual Listening
Techniques while the dependent variable is the Memory Test Score. This experiment will be
done in the class with taking students as population.

Sample

For this study the respondents are the Senior High School students from Laboratory High School
of Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology. From the total of 50 persons in two
class. 25 from STEM and 25 H.E students (Male and Female) composing of 50 students will be
chosen respondents because the researchers conclude that this generation are prone to memory
difficulties in the academic performance.

The target population is consist of small numbers of individuals. Respondents of the study will
be selected using simple random sampling. This method will provide an unbiased representation
of the group, because each individuals have equal chance of getting selected. The researchers
will use the lottery or fishbowl technique. The names of the target population will be written on
pieces of paper and will be placed on a container. Researchers will draw the number and look for
the list name of respondents.

Measures

In this study, the researchers will find out which is the best learning style for students to use
when studying using Memory Test. They will be using between-group design to show that there
is a difference between the 2 treatment groups as they will also use One Way Analysis of
Variance.

Data Collection Procedures

The researchers will ask permission from the principal of MinSCAT LHS, adviser or president of
the class to conduct the memory test by handing out a formal letter. After the approval, the
researchers will conduct the memory test in 1 day within 2 selected sections (STEM and H.E).
Each sections consist of 25 respondents.

The researchers will conduct 2 different memory test; (1) Auditory listening and (2)Auditory
Visual listening. This is a test of what words can memory recall just by these 2 different memory
test. For the 1st treatment group, they will be undergoing Auditory listening, wherein the
researchers will speak the words and the respondents will only listen to them. The researchers
will repeat the words thrice to make sure that the words are heard correctly. After that, the
researchers will hand out a blank paper and the respondents are given 5 minutes to write the
words that they have recalled.

For the 2nd treatment group, they will be undergoing Auditory Visual Listening, wherein the
researchers will be showing a powerpoint of words in it and will still speak the words together
with the students. The researchers will repeat this process again thrice. After that, the researchers
will hand out a blank paper and the respondents are given 5 minutes too to write the words they
have recalled.

The data gathered on this procedure will be tallied and will be analyzed through One Way
Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).

Pilot Testing

The researchers will actuate the experiment with their classmates as their temporary respondents
before conducting the actual experiment with their 50 respondents comprising of 25 students
each from STEM and HE students of MinSCAT Laboratory High School.

Data Analysis Procedures

To be able to determine the result, the researchers will tally the gathered data and will use
statistical method. Since, there is are two conditions used in the study, they will be analyze by
means of One way ANOVA. The two conditions will be compared based on the result to find out
which of the two learning style results to positive outcome in terms of human memory. Also, the
significant relationship between learning style and memory will be answered based on the
results. Lastly, the results will show if learning style based instruction is effective when it comes
to memorization.

Limitations of the Study

The researchers considered certain limitations. In this study, the researchers will examine the
two learning styles.
The study is limited to Grade 12 students on MinSCAT Laboratory High School, 25 respondents
each from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Home Economics
(HE) comprising of 50 respondents.

Timelines

The researchers will start the treatment of data once that the data are collected.
