When researching a topic in the educational system the one I found the most interesting

was the use of technology in the classroom and more specifically in the elementary classroom.

Many believe that the use of technology in classrooms can be distracting but I think that the

education system needs to evolve with the times and that having technology in the classroom can

be effective in a positive way for example students are being prepared for the computer era,

technology can keep students engaged and have access to technology means students will be able

to retrieve the most up to date information.

Now that we are in the year 2020 everything is digital and everything will most likely

remain digital. They type of technology I am going to be talking about and that I think is

appropriate to have in the classroom is chrome books, smart boards, and ipad’s. After the student

is finished with his/her schooling they will most likely try to find a well-paying job. Most jobs

require their staff to complete work on computers or work with technology in some type of way.

By allowing technology in the classroom it is equipping students to be prepared for job

requirements that they might face in the real world. Another reason I believe I think having

technology in the classroom is because students now and days are more familiar with the use of

technology than with anything else. By using materials that students know how to work with can

make the learning processes easier and more efficient.

When there is technology in the classroom teacher need to make sure they are not

abusing the technology privilege. This means the teacher should be making an effort to have

equal parts of the face to face interaction and screen time. By having trained teachers that don't

just use technology as a way to make their job easier but that put an effort into making lesson

plans that include technological resources will ensure that the students have both human

interactions and screen time. Using technology in classroom’s will also keep students engaged in

the work because the use of computers and pad’s is a medium that they know how to use and

they know how to navigate through the technology. What teachers need to do is they need to

make sure that the use of technology in their classroom isn’t being used as a distraction and as a

form of entertainment, only when students and teachers are not abusing technology in the

classroom is when it will be beneficial.

Another way technology can be useful is teachers and students will have access to the

news information that there is. Unlike a textbook the information online is constantly being

changed and being updated. Looking up information online is better than relaying on a 10 year

old text book that might be behind on its information. Teachers will need to show students the

proper way to look up information and what website they need to stay away from or that don’t

give the most accurate information. This will help students in the real world when they find a job

that requires them to do research, they can take the useful information that they learned in school

bout how to look something up online and can make a connection to the real world. Teachers

should be the ones to decide if the technology is used in the classrooms and how it should be

used. I think the view of the education system needs to be changed from seeing it as a market and

wages and view it as an ethical obligation. This why I think the call if whether or not technology

should be used should rest with the teachers' decision because it is the teachers who have the

students' best interest at heart.

In Conclusion Students are living in a computer era where technology is all around them

by allowing students to use technology in the classroom it will better equip them for the real

world. I think that the education system needs to evolve with the times and that having

technology in the classroom can be effective in a positive way. If teachers do decide to have

technology in their classrooms then teachers are obligated to make sure that their students are

getting equal parts of both screen time and face to face interaction. When it comes down to

deciding on whether or not technology should be in the classroom the decision should rest with

the teachers.

Reflection

So far I have complete my rough draft all they way through and I was able to state all my

examples and details. What I have not done get is I have no reached my 700 minimum and I’m

struggling with reaching it because I don’t want to make my essay too wordy. What I am

unhappy with is my thesis because I don’t think it is very clear.

1) Dose my thesis statement make sense

2) Do all my examples and points relate back to my topic

3) Is my essay too wordy
