the students in terms of reading. These will strengthen them in the development of attitudes and skills in reading and speaking which make them productive and
empowered individual or student. They are expected to become more capable of communicating in all content areas.
Intervention/s Made:
1. Identify the difficulties that we observe in non-readers and develop an approach that addresses the phonological, comprehension, fluency or
working memory issues that underlie the reading problems;
2. Once identified the reading deficits, help these children to become a reader through repeated practice with a set of reading tools/materials that
will help them to create pathways their brain for reading;
3. Introduce phonic instruction, it is critically important because it helps beginning readers understand the alphabet principles and learn new words.
4. Two methods in practice for teaching the beginners:
a. Phonic methods – deals with letter names requires memorization of letter names.
b. Whole methods- It is a letter to sound correspondence methods.

In teaching non-readers two things are involved:

1. Reading Materials
2. Teaching Methods
 Use different strategies like videos and audio tapes to teach the child phonemes.
 Let him/her read a very simple text.
 Provide him with a partner who can help read.
 Form a readers play where readers will come together.

Reading strategies for struggling readers can be divided into two parts:
1. Decoding strategies
2. Comprehension strategies

Decoding strategies – involves teaching the child phonemic awareness. Teaching the child, the literal pronunciation of words by breaking them down
into bits & pieces.

Comprehension strategies – understanding something.
