Gateway Online Class

H E L LO !

Session Seven 7th May

Hello again to the Gateway Gang!

In this document I have a written instructions to accompany the video I made for this
weeks class. I used household items for all projects so hopefully you will have some/all of
the materials at hand!

There are three options of tasks to complete this week. Once you have experimented
with each task, I would like you to try and combine the projects!

I hope you are all keeping well... I have missed you!

dream catchers
Materials needed for surface rubbings: Lots of materials can be used for these. But you will need some type
of string and a scissors.

Step 1 -  Fashion a hoop. You can do this by cutting one out of cardboard, but you can also do this many other ways ie with twigs.

Step 2 -  Using wool, string or ribbon wrap your hoop.

Step 3 - Wrap string diagonally across the centre of your hoop.

Step 4 - Tie long tassels to your dream catcher. And also, a loop at the top to hang it.

Step 5 -  Now you can decorate your dream catcher! You can also do this in lots of ways dependant on what materials you have at your disposal. In the
videos I have made some suggestions. Try to incorporate things we have done over the last few weeks together, for example, the bubble painting!
walking maps
Materials needed : Paper, pen and your imagination!

Step 1 - Choose either to do a map of your house or your neighbourhood!

Step 2 - Take a walk around your chosen area. As you slowly walk, be mindful or things you encounter on your way. You can either bring a paper and pen with
you, or take some photos on you phone.

Step 3 - When you arrive home, take several pieces of paper to start with, as you might have to do some test maps. This will ensure that you can fit everything on
to your page.

Step 4 -  Try to imagine you are walking the same route again in your head. Look at the reference images/ notes you took.

Step 5 - Begin by first drawing your roads/ pathways. Taking note of and leaving space where shops/ parks are but do not fill them in just yet.

Step 6 - If you run out of space on the page, thats ok! Just start again and see if the next time you can fit everything in! This is part of the fun of map drawing. Its
like a puzzel.

Step  7 - When you are happy with your pathways, you can begin to populate your map. This is where you need to make the decision of whether you want to do
a fantastical map or a realistic map.

Step 8 - If you choose to do a realistic map. Draw all of your local shops etc into the spaces left in your map. Try to include as many details as you can. You can
include details of birds you saw etc.

Step 9 - You can also choose to do a fantastical map! Imaging a whole new world, for example under the sea! I encourage you to mix your imagination with
reality. So where in reality, it might be your local Tesco, in your sea word it is the Oysters Den Market!
drawing like Picasso
Materials needed : Paper, pen/pencil, a die (we can also make this from paper) and paints/ colouring pencils.

Step 1 -  First if you do not have a die, we will have to make one. If you do have one, you can skip ahead to step 5.

Step 2 -  With a ruler and pen, draw four even boxes stacked on top of each other. At the second box from the
top draw one more box, either side. What you should be left with should be a cross shape.

Step 3 -  On each 'face' of the die, draw on the dots in the order indicated in the picture on the right.

Step 4 -  Cut this shape out and fold along each of the lines and use sellotape to fit the box together.

Step 5 -  Now we can play the Picasso game! On the next slide there are the rules to the game.

Step 6 - To start your drawing, roll the dice and draw the feature that corresponds with your roll!

Step 7 - When you have filled out all the features of your face, colour your picasso picture in bright blocks of colours!
THANK YOU!
