THE SUBMISSION IS IN THE FORM OF A 10-MINUTE INDIVIDUAL POWERPOINT PRESENTATION AND 5 MINUTES ALLOCATED FOR QUESTIONS; A
PRESENTATION EVALUATION NOTE; AND A REPORT.

THE REPORTS SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN A CONCISE, FORMAL BUSINESS STYLE USING SINGLE SPACING AND FONT STYLE CALIBRI AND SIZE 11. YOU ARE
REQUIRED TO MAKE USE OF HEADINGS, PARAGRAPHS AND SUBSECTIONS AS APPROPRIATE, AND ALL WORK MUST BE SUPPORTED WITH RESEARCH AND
REFERENCED USING THE HARVARD REFERENCING SYSTEM. PLEASE ALSO PROVIDE A BIBLIOGRAPHY USING THE HARVARD REFERENCING SYSTEM. THE

SCENARIO

You have the choice of using any organisation (not restricted to Honda). Use your selected organisation wherever Honda is
referred to in the brief.
TASK 1 - (LO1 AND LO2) - GUIDANCE
You are an HR consultant hired by Honda to write an honest review on their management and leadership success, which is
commonly reported as one of the best, leading to the meteoric rise of Mr. Honda from back-street garage to transnational
corporation. Prepare a report that introduces the organisation and its management structure.

Define both managers and leaders, highlighting the differences between their roles and characteristics. Analyse this difference
and comparison by effectively applying a range of theories and concepts. This comparison should be applied to Honda and other
organisations from the automobile industry and/or other meteoric success/failures from non-automobile industries; examine
examples in different situational contexts.

Understand how theories, such as on leadership (situational, systems, contingency), chaos theory and management by
objectives have been applied to Honda as well as other organisations used earlier in the report for comparison. Assess the
strengths and weaknesses of the application of different approaches to situations within the work environment of these
organisations.

Critically analyse and evaluate the different theories and approaches to leadership in the given context of Honda, specifically
making a contribution towards growth and sustainable performance. Conclude the report by explaining how managers and
leaders have made an impact on the organisation and give recommendations for future improvements.
TASK 2 - (LO3 AND LO4) – GUIDANCE
After the submission of report to the senior team, CEO Honda has asked you to provide feedback on best approaches and
practices with regards to operations management, in order to improve overall operations in the company.

Introduce the key operations of Honda and explain the key approaches being used to manage these operations. Identify and
explain the roles and responsibilities of managers and leaders in these operational functions and their management. Explain the
importance of these operational approaches being used and their value to the overall process and goal attainment. Which other
approaches could be included to improve the overall process? Evaluate and suggest how operational efficiencies can be
improved to meet business objectives using appropriate management and leadership approaches.

However, operational management and decision-making of leaders and managers is not done in a vacuum, rather in the
contemporary business environment that has many dimensions, specifically: the relationship that leadership and management
have in the context of corporate social responsibility (culture, values, ethics, sustainability); and the relationship that leadership
and management have with stakeholders and meeting stakeholder expectations in the context of encouraging, developing and
sustaining entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship. Assess such possible factors from the external business environment.
Analyse how these affect the business environment and wider community. Contextualise some of these to Honda, and analyse
their impact on Honda’s decision-making and operational management.

Critically evaluate the application of operations management and factors that impact the wider business environment, generally
and in context of Honda and other organisations discussed in task 1. Conclude with supported recommendations for future
improvements to be taken by Honda.
