C. TARGET STRENGTH FOR MIX PROPORTIONING
f 'ck = fck+(1.65*S)

Where
fck = Characteristic compressive strength at 28 days 30 N/mm2

S = Standard Deviation (As Per IS: 456-2000 Table-1) 5 N/mm2

f 'ck = Target mean compressive strength at 28 days 38.25 N/mm2
D. SELECTION OF WATER CEMENT RATIO (as per IS: 456 (2000) Table - 5)

Maximum Water Cement Ratio = 0.38

Based on experience,

Adopt Water Cement Ratio = 0.38 0.38<=0.38,Hence OK.

E. SELECTION OF WATER COTENT (as per IS: 10262 (2009) Table - 2)
Maximum water content for 20mm aggregate = 186 ltr/m3
(For 25 mm to 50 mm slump)
Estimated Maximum Water Content 188.0 ltr/m3
for 60 mm slump = 186+(1.2/100*186) ltr/m3
Based on experience, Adopt water content = 150 ltr/m3 150<188,Hence OK.

F. CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT (as per IS: 10262 (2009))

Water content = 150 ltr/m3

Water Cement Ratio = 0.38

Cement Content = 395 Kg/m3 395>350 And 395<425,Hence OK.
G.PROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT
From IS: 10262(2009) Table-3, Volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20mm size aggregate and fine aggregate (Zone-III) fo
water cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.64
In present case water cement ratio =0.38. Therefore volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased and decreased the fine
aggregate content. As the water cement ratio is lower by 0.10 the volume of coarse aggregate is increased by 0.02 (at the ratio of
± 0.01 for every ± 0.05 change in water cement ratio). Therefore corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the water
cement ratio of 0.38 = 0.62+0.024 =0.644 (But as per Trial The ratio of CA & FA is 0.60:0.40)
So volume of Coarse Aggregate (m3) = 0.64 m3
Volume of Fine Aggregate (m3) = 0.36 m3
H. MIX CALCULATIONS

a. Volume of concrete (m3)= 1.0 m3

c. Volume of cement (m3) = (Mass of cement/Sp. Gravity of cement) * (1/1000) = 0.1255 m3
d. Volume of water (m3) = (Mass of water/Sp. Gravity of water) * (1/1000) = 0.1500 m3
f. Volume of all in aggrerate (m3) = (a-(b+c+d+e)) = 0.725 m3
g. Mass of Coarse Aggregate (Kg/m3) = (e*% of CA* Sp.Gr.of CA.*1000) 1273.680 Kg/m3
h. Mass of Fine Aggregate (Kg/m3) = (e*% of FA* Sp.Gr.of FA.*1000) 685.386 Kg/m3

Remarks:- 1.- The mix designed proportion of cement concrete is based on the quality of the
ingredient materials such as water, cement, fine aggregate and coarse aggregates
received in this laboratory. More over as strength of concrete of the said Mix is directly
related to the strength of cement mentioned at A-1 (table- II), cement having the same
strength must be used while adopting the above Mix design of concrete.
2.- Aggregates are used in (S.S.D) saturated surface dry condition in the above Mix.

Above test results pertain to the samples received in this laboratory.
