Music Lesson Plan

Title: Beethoven 7 Grade Level: Second

Materials needed:
• Beethoven 7 symphony excerpt
• Picture of Beethoven

Procedure:

A.S: Who is this? (show picture) He wrote and composed music…it’s


Beethoven. Do you guys know what an orchestra is? What instruments do
you see in an orchestra? (violin, piano, cello, etc)

1. Listen to this song, and see what instruments you can hear
2. That was called Beethoven 7, in the song it sounds like Beethoven Seven
is being play, We are going to listen again and when you can hear it put
your finger on your nose.
3. This time we are going to whisper the words we can hear in the song (say
Beeeee-thoven Seeee-ven, as goes with the melody)
4. Does the end sound different? Let’s listen. Yeah it’s shorter, so at the end
let’s say Beethoven 7, yeah! And raise our arms up.
5. Let’s listen to the song again and this time count how many times we hear
Beethoven 7. How many did you hear? (3)
6. Now this time as we listen we are going to hit our thighs with our hands to
Beethoven, clap during 7, and keep the yeah at the end. (keep steady beat
by hitting things and clapping)
7. Now try it without me
Closure: So today, we learned about a composer, who did we learn about?
(show pic). What did he do? (made music, orchestra)
