Introduction (25 Seconds): Good day to everybody, my name is David Mora and I

am going to make a brief presentation of what a curriculum is, and the different
types of it, based on a definition of the UNESCO, which is the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. In addition, I am going to make a
relationship between the curricula theory and the connection with the present-day
conceptualization of curriculum.
Definition of curriculum by UNESCO (30 Seconds): The first item that I am going to
describe is the definition of curriculum. According by UNESCO, a curriculum is a
systematic and intended packaging of competencies (like knowledge, skills and
attitudes that are underpinned by values) that learners should acquire through
organized learning experiences both in formal and non-formal settings. At the
same time, curriculum contributes to the development of thinking skills and the
acquisition of relevant knowledge that learners need to apply in the context of their
studies, daily life and careers.
Four Types of Curricula: (40 seconds)
1. The first type is the one called curriculum as knowledge to be transmitted,
better known with the definition of syllabus. Currently this approach is seen
as obsolete, because it focuses only in the content and not in the people
that receive that content. (10 seconds)

2. The second type is the product-oriented, in this type of curriculum there is

more focus on the on planned objectives that are applied and measured.
Nowadays this is the most common type of curriculum used in the schools,
because it favors more contextual elements and flexibility than prescribing
contents. (14 seconds)

3. The third type is the process-oriented; it is defined as the interaction

between all the elements taking part in the learning process, which are: the
teachers, the students and the knowledge taught. In these days, all the
schools want to apply it, because the majority of schools want to give more
participation to their students in their learning processes. (15 seconds)

4. Finally we have the curriculum as praxis, which is the future in terms of

curriculum theory, it is a type of curriculum that deal with practical
discussion by the use of technological and digital advance, with the
objective of speeding up the learning process. It is used in some schools
that are modernizing their projects

Conclusion (25 seconds): I think that all the people involved in education
(Politicians, Schools and Teachers), should know all the types of curricula, in order
to develop projects that adapts to the different populations that the world has. A
curriculum also needs to teach our kids how to live in harmony between the
different cultures, and we have to be conscious that the students of today are
people with great knowledge of the use of technology and it is important to know
how to use that technology for their benefit.
