Teaching Reflection 2
I filmed myself teaching a lesson for a substitute teacher through youtube. This was not
like any other micro teach that I have completed and presented for the class. It was strange
because instead of teaching my peers in class it was set to help a substitute teacher run my class
when I was not there. I enjoyed this because it gave me different resources and experiences than
what normally happens in the class. I think I grew as a teacher from the last time I presented my
micro teach for the class, I was more prepared and the lesson was much better. However, I want
to continue to practice how I communicate with my class. Sometimes I lose track of what I am
talking about and do not stay on topic. I need to work on my languaging when I speak to the
students, and not compliment them when I do not know what they are doing or if they do not do
something well. I feel some of my skills are being likeable and being able to connect to my
students. I think that in a classroom I will be able to encourage students to learn in a safe
environment. It is hard to tell, when over a video, because I cannot see the students or their
reactions. I could not tell if my teaching was effective, but the comments made in class made me
believe that it could be. Watching over the video again made me see my mistake of leaving in the
beginning mess up and not editing it out. A mistake that should not have made it into my final
draft. Before I uploaded it, I quickly checked the video, but not the beginning. Overall, a big
improvement from my first teaching segment in class but still a lot of work to be done.
I affirm that I have upheld the highest principles of honesty and integrity in my academic work
and have not witnessed a violation of the honor code.
