SUMMARY
Hannah Gould is a senior at James Madison University pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree with a
concentration in String Music Education. She began playing violin in Prince William County Public
Schools in 2008 before switching to cello in Spotsylvania County Public Schools in 2009. Gould attended
Riverbend High School under the direction of Mr. John-Rine Zabanal from 2012-2016, and began
studying cello privately with Christine Hartigan in 2015. She studied cello with Dr. Carl Donakowski,
DMA, at James Madison University from 2016-2019, and completed her student teaching with James
Forry at Massaponax High School in Spotsylvania County and Carly Sokol at A.G. Wright Middle School
in Stafford County. After graduating from university, Gould plans to find work directing orchestras in
middle or high schools, with a preference for high school. Her ultimate goal is to attain a graduate degree
in orchestral conducting. When she is not studying, practicing, or rehearsing, Gould enjoys both classical
composing and leisurely songwriting, and she hopes to one day publish an original orchestral work. Her
greatest dream is to compose or collaborate on a film score for a Hollywood or Disney film.

Gould has attended the 2017, 2018, and 2019 ASTA National Conferences, as well as the 2018 VMEA
Annual Conference. She presented research posters at the 2018 and 2019 ASTA conferences and the 2018
VMEA conference. She plans to attend the 2020 and 2021 National Conferences as a member of the
ASTA Student Advisory Committee.
