Understanding Stock Types in SAP EWM

SAP EWM manages stock in stock types. System shows current stock situation on
storage bin level. In every warehouse the physical stock located either in the
warehouse bins or dock/staging areas. So in this way SAP EWM stocks had either “in
Putaway” or “in Warehouse” with attributes like unrestricted, quality and blocked
stocks. A means of subdividing storage location stock or special stock. The SAP
EWM stock type gives an indication of a material’s usability.
The ERP storage locations are derived for different purposes of stocks availability
like AFS (available for sale-goods available), ROD (received on Dock-goods in
putaway). Based on our business requirements we can also configure storage
location for cross-dock stocks and Returns.

Let’s look at stock type from bottom of the warehouse system into Storage location
of ERP storage location as below
Product quantity in a bin with stock type,
Bin contains Storage type,
Storage type contains availability group plus non location stock type,

1
Availability group is linked to a storage location in ERP for every warehouse number

Now we can go configuration steps required for SAP EWM Stock Type
Define stock type in IMG  LIME application setting.
Define Stock types for each Warehouse in IMG Masterdata for a product
Define Availability group for putaway in GR process for putaway
Define non location dependent stock type,
Link stock type with availability group plus non location dependent.
Assign available group to Storage type
Map Storage Locations from ERP System to EWM in IMG Interfaces/ERP
integration/GM
see below mapping
Storage location – availability group – non-location dep. stock type – stock type
Example:
ROD                   – 001                    – FF (free stock)                       – F1
AFS                   – 002                    – FF                                                 – F2
ROD                   – 001                    – QQ (quality stock)                  – Q3

Define SAP EWM Stock Type in IMG LIME

application setting.
IMG> SCM Basis>Logistics Inventory Management Engine(LIME) >Application
Specific setting> Determine Stock Type.
There are six stock types in standard Customizing for SAP EWM but you can
configure your own stock types for you
F1: Unrestricted-Use in Putaway, Q1: Stock in Quality Inspection in Putaway, B1:
Blocked in Putaway
F2: Unrestricted-Use Warehouse, Q2: Stock in QI in Warehouse and B2: Blocked
Warehouse

2
Define SAP EWM Stock types for each
Warehouse in IMG Masterdata for a product
Next Maintain SAP EWM Stock types for your Warehouse in
IMG>EWM>MasterData>Product>Define Stock Types
you define the possible stock types in your warehouse number. You must assign all
stock quantities managed in the warehouse to a stock type, and you can also define
the stock types to meet your own requirements.

Define Availability group for putaway in GR

process for putaway

Define Availability group for putway in GR process in IMG>EWM> Goods Receipt

Process>Configure Availability group for Putway.
you define the availability of the product, dependent on the storage type. The
system maps the availability of a product using the stock type.
SAP recommends the following:
In the final storage type, set the availability group to Mandatory
In the storage type in which you post goods receipts for deliveries, do not set the
availability group to Mandatory. This enables you to post goods receipts if the stock

3
has a stock type that does not belong to the storage type. For example, you have
assigned the goods receipt zone (GR zone) to the availability group 001. The
delivery item has stock type F2, which belongs to availability group 002. You can
only post the goods receipt to the GR zone if the availability group is not
mandatory. The system only performs an automatic posting change (for example,
from F1 to F2) if:
The source and destination storage types have different availability groups.
The availability group is mandatory in the destination storage type.
The stock type in the source storage type does not belong to the availability group
for the destination storage type.

Location-Independent Stock Type

Defines the quality (unrestricted-use, in quality inspection, blocked) of a stock,
regardless of the availability group of the storage type.
The location-independent stock type is assigned in Customizing for Extended
Warehouse Management (EWM) to an EWM stock type, and is used for the following
functions:
Determining the subsequent stock type for a transfer between two storage types
that belong to different availability groups.
Defines the quality (unrestricted-use, in quality inspection, blocked) of a stock,
regardless of the availability group of the storage type.
Determining the subsequent stock type for a transfer between two storage types
that belong to different availability groups.
Dependencies : The location-independent stock type points uniquely to one stock
type in the SAP ERP system:
FF: Unrestricted-use stock
QQ: Quality inspection stock
BB: Blocked stock
RR: Returns blocked stock (non-valuated, not visible in SAP APO)
The SAP ERP system only recognizes the above stock types. You can define other
location-independent stock types in EWM, if you do not need to communicate them
to the ERP system.

stock type
Dependencies
The location-independent stock type points uniquely to one stock type in the SAP
ERP system:

See below example of creating Returns new storage location as “RETN” with
availability group “RET” with stock type like as “Z2” plus “FF” as non-Dep stock type

???Report???
Stype, Product???, Qty, Bun, Stock Type

6

In general, Stock type Role is empty for the storage types. I only see some one
configure stock type role example as scrapping stock would ensure that Extended
Warehouse Management (EWM) automatically posts the goods to scrap stock when
they are moved to the scrapping area.
