where:
• Surname is your family name (also known as last name or surname) as it appears in your
Student ID (for example: Smith).
• First Name is your forename as it appears in your Student ID (for example: john).
• YR3S2 is Year 3 Semester 2.

This coursework is related BUT NOT LIMITED to the syllabus. You may consult the wealth
of information available via the internet. However, “copy and paste” from these sources of
information IS NOT ALLOWED.

Proper documentation is also expected from you.

Case Study

In this coursework, you will design and configure a network for the University, UDM. UDM
has three (3) campuses, mainly Pamplemousses campus, Camp le Vieux Campus and Stanley
campus. Each campus has different departments as shown below.

Each campus has an IT administrator, who manages the Network infrastructure of a campus.
The Head of ICT is located at the head office, and overseas the work of IT Administrators. All
staff and students have an email address, and must be able to send emails to one another.
Documents related to each course or module are stored on File Servers on each campus. Staff
and students are only able to use the browser to send email and download files.
You are free to add any other facilities that you deem necessary when designing the network.
Security measures, in terms of accessibility, restrictions, permissions, must also be taken into
consideration. You are free to add anything to ensure and enforce security. Marks will be given
for any security techniques that has not been covered in the syllabus.
You report must include the configuration that you used and where, along with commands
where applicable. You need to explain properly your choice of devices, network topology,
security measures and/or other configuration that you used. Screen shots (photos) are allowed
in your report but any commands that you used must be copied and pasted, not inserted as an
image.
