Activity # 1

Question:

First Glance

1. What words would you use to describe the mood of people in this painting?

Ans. The words I would use to describe the mood in that painting are thankful, traditional,
family-oriented, and God-fearing.

2. Look at the painting. Now close your eyes, which person in this painting do you remember the
most? Why?
Ans. The young girl. It seems to me that she is the eldest child so am I. I have a strange
feeling towards the girl that she was the very first person I've noticed in the painting.
3. Name the activity that is happening in this picture?
Ans. The family is having a prayer to maybe thank God for the food served in their dining
table.
4. How many objects in the room can you name?
Ans. Plate, aluminum glass, and table,
5. How does this painting make you feel?
Ans. Happy and contented.

Closer Look

1. How does Vicente Manansala make our eyes move around the painting?
Ans. There is something that make us feel the urge to look at the painting, closely. When I
first saw the girl, it made me asked myself, "What is she doing?". So to answer it, I observed the
painting. There is something in the painting that will make you feel curious. But it doesn't end there.
Manansala used cubism in his painting that made it hard to understand.

2. Besides color what else move our eyes around the painting?
Ans. The cubism used by Manansala, the way the family was arranged around the dining
table, and the family members' perspectives in the painting.
3. Did you notice the cubes that made up the painting?
Ans. Yes, the second thing I noticed after the girl.
4. Can you find the particular Filipino values in the painting?
Ans. Family-oriented, praying before eating, and the family must be complete before starting.
5. Who are these people?
Ans. They are the members of the family.
6. Which person is closest to you and why?
Ans. The older sister because I know exactly what it feels to be the eldest daugther in the
family. When there's a family problem, there you are, pretending unhurt and staying strong for
the younger ones. It is like having kids of not your own.
