Movement Lesson Plan

Title: Johnny Caught a Flea Grade Level: K


Source: Dr. Michelle McConkey

Materials needed:
Music

Procedure:

A.S: Has anyone caught a bug before? What kind of bug have you caught before? Was it big or
little?

1. Organize the students so that they form a circle.


2. Now sing for the students the song and the rhythm to it.
3. Ask students the following questions:
a. What was the song about?
b. What did Johnny catch?
c. What type of bug did Johnny catch?
4. Introduce the children to their activity which is to learn the song
5. Seperate the song into sections, and have the students memorize it.
6. Sing a section of the song and have students repeat it back.
7. Introduce silences to students.
8.Now that students know the whole song, as a class sing the whole song.
9. Introduce students to movements that go along with the song.
a. 123 (count fingers), stomp
b. Johnny caught a flea (Hands above head)
c. Flea died, johnny cried (Hands to face + rock head side to side)
d. Tee Hee Hee (Take partner hands, change places)
e. 180 jump
10. Perform movements while singing the song

Closure: Reiterated silence in music.
