3. .WHAT ARE THE PHILIPPINE MUSIC ORGAN ICON

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) issued commemorative stamps recognizing three Filipino
music icons.

The “Pinoy Music Icons stamps” feature Original Pilipino Music (OPM) artists Rene Garcia, Rico J. Puno,
and Pepe Smith.

Rene Garcia of the band Hotdog composed songs like “Annie Batungbakal”, “Bongga Ka Day”, “Beh, Buti
Nga”, “Bitin Sa ‘Yo”, “Ikaw ang Miss Universe ng Buhay Ko”, “Dying to Tell You”, “Langit na Naman”, and
“Sana Maganda Ako.”

“Rene pioneered the Manila Sound, a musical genre which mirrored not only the distinctive music of the
era but also the sentiments of many Filipinos toward their culture and homeland,” said PHLpost.

Rico J. Puno, on the other hand, rose to stardom after channeling American superstars to forge a
distinctive brand of local soul music in the 1970s covering american hits — including “The Way We
Were” by Barbra Streisand and “Baby I’m for Real” by Marvin Gaye.

Meanwhile, Pepe Smith, known to be the “Father of Philippine Rock”, personified Pinoy Rock as lead
vocalist and drummer of the Juan dela Cruz Band, thereby, creating a true local music genre.
PHLPost added that the three music legends “played in linking the past and the present generations
through their own brand of music, paving the way for the further enhancement of Original Pilipino
Music.”

The stamps and Official First Day covers of “Pinoy Music Icon stamps” are available at the Manila Central
Post Office and other area post offices nationwide.

Philippine dance has played a tremendous role in Filipino culture. From one of the oldest dated dances
called the Tinikling, to other folkloric dances such as the Pandanggo, Cariñosa, and Subli, and even to
more modern-day dances like the ballet, it is no doubt that dance in the Philippine setting has integrated
itself in society over the course of many years and is significantly imbedded in culture. Each of these
dances originated in a unique way and serve a certain purpose, showcasing how diverse Philippine
dances are.

5. EXPLAIN THE ORIGIN FUNTION AND ORIGIN OF DANCE

From the earliest moments of known human history, dance accompanied ancient rituals, spiritual
gatherings and social events. As a conduit of trance, spiritual force, pleasure, expression, performance
and interaction, dance became infused into our nature from the earliest moments of our existence -
from the moment when first African tribes covered themselves in war-paint to the to the spreading of
music and dance across all four corners of the world. Without a doubt, dancing remains one of the most
expressive forms of communications that we know.

duck, specificaly how a duck splashes in the water to attract its partner.

-Tinikling = Considered to be the Philippine national dance aside from its rival, Cariñosa, but still

tree branches. It requires two bamboo poles. The challenge of this dance is to try not to get your feet
hurt between the poles.

using three oil lamps: one from the head, and two from the hands. Women usually perform this dance
but there are times when malles perform the pandanggo.

-Cariñosa=Another dance which was called the Philippine National Dance aside from its rival, Tinikling.
The name cariñosa means “loving or affectionate one”. It is basically a dance meant for flirting. A fan or
