Managing Learning F D C B A
Comments:
- Maryam does a great job vocalizing her expectations to students:
. “No, raise your hand to answer!” she says.
. “Try! Just Try!” she says to a hesitant student.
- Maryam always remembers to give students positive reinforcement. She gives both
individual reinforcement and group reinforcement (“You are great students!” she says
to them).
- Maryam reminds students to be quiet while she gives instructions.
Implementing Learning F D C B A
Comments:
- Maryam explains the activity for one group in front of everyone. But what about
explanations for the other groups? When it’s time to give explanations for the rest of
the activities/groups, many students have lost interest, and they are no longer listening.
- Maryam might want to reassess the manner in which she gives instructions:
. many students had to wait a relatively long time before being able to start their activity
. she should also keep in mind that, once the teacher gives out resources/activity sheets,
often the students will stop listening
Assessment F D C B A
Comments:
- Ask Mariam to assess the level of the activities as well as the students’ level.
- I believe that Mariam did a good job assessing students’ levels.
- She must continue learning about the level (strengths and weaknesses) of each child.
Reflection on Practice F D C B A
Comments:
- Maryam is quite self-reflective.
- She must ask even more questions (to herself!) about the planning and about how she
implemented the lessons she planned
Action Plan:
1- Watch spoken English. Generally good, but some errors were heard:
. “Let’s see which group it will be finished!” (say “Let’s see which group will finish first”)
. “I will tell you what you must to do” (say “ I will tell you what you must do”)
. “Do you listen me?” (say “Are you listening to me?”)
. “I will explain what you must to do” (say “I will explain what you must do”)
2- When saying “class, class” or when clapping, why not ask students to repeat “yes, yes”
or ask them to ‘clap’ a response to you?
