Inventory Management through Lean Logistics and Warehousing

Scope:
This research will cover the traditional view of physical control of inventories, then the
relationships between the warehouse and the organization and then we review traditional
logistics activities. In second half of this research paper we will review distribution requirements
planning, Lean warehousing and Lean logistics.

Objective: The objective of this study is to reduce inventory while using Lean Logistics &
warehousing techniques.

Method:
Logistics Bridge Model i.e.
 Flow
 Capability
 Discipline

Results: In this research, There is an emphasis on ensuring that the process is robust and
capable, the idea being that people will generally not makes mistakes unless the process allows
them to. This is just one example where Lean has taken a core concept respect for people in this
case and applied it to a specific area, in this case quality control and improvement, with the result
being a new approach that has strengths from the traditional approach as well as a new strengths
from the core value. Lean is a complete operating system, and needs to be approached and
adopted as such, not just as a set of loosely connected tools created to eliminate waste.

2. Inventory Reduction by Applying Inventory Management Tools of a Selected

Tannery Factory
Scope: The analysis shows the level of safety stock & work in process inventory that the
company should maintain in order to ensure the tradeoff between the pressure of low inventory
and that of high inventory.

Objective: Objective of this study is reduction of inventory.

Method:
This is an actual case study performed in a company in Bangladesh by analyzing start to end
process flow and data analyzing.
Step 1: Conducting the primary survey
Step 2: Observe the whole leather manufacturing process
Step 3: Preparing primary questionnaire
Step 4: Modification of the questionnaire
Step 5: Performing the case study and conducting interview
Step 6: Data processing & analysis
Results:

The case study has revealed that the traditional inventory management system needs some
modification depending on the situation or the operating environment, while inventory is
management by company. At the analysis shows that the company can reduce the level of safety
stock & work in process inventory , at first phase of recommendation represents how it can be
carried out and the later phase defines the steps which should be proper monitored and controlled
with a view to maintain an optimized inventory management system. This will enable to obtain
an effective safety stock level & work in process inventory. Allowing inventory policy for
reducing the excess inventory level. Receiving and improving the order tracking process as
necessary. Monitoring orders, delivery performance and safety stock policy adhere continually.
Holding the excess stock at the supplier premises. Locating the inventory at different points in
the rather to hold much in the warehouses.

3. Inventory Reduction in the Supply Chain of Finished Products for Multinational

Companies
Scope: This article aims to propose strategies to reduce inventories in the chain supplies
multinational companies finished product.
Objective: The end result is achieved reduce inventory in more than a means of Currency Units
(CU) million and, in addition to identifying future risks that might jeopardize service levels of
the company.

Method: The methodology in four (4) phases. The phases are as follows3,7:
1. The SC and information systems used in the department of the category under study are
diagnosed.
2. Activities are developed in order to identify factors and opportunities in the SC to improve
the key performance indicators (ICD).
3. The process of developing proposals for improvements that would meet the overall objective
of this project starts.
4. Tools and processes for implementing each of the proposals for improvement are developed.
Actual data was gathered and ANOVA analysis was applied.
Results: Process Redistribution Excess: is an achieved redistribute 341 pallet of merchandise
related to Supply Chain Razors and razor blades valued at 984,000 CU and reduce the cost of
transporting an additional 23 pallets that had to be re-packaged. These results are achieved in a
period of only 14 weeks. Process Inventory Elimination Preventive Orange: 529.500UM
preventing future Inactive Inventory is achieved in a period of 8 weeks, representing preventing
an increase of 16% over the boundaries of the established goal.

4. INVENTORY METHODS IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE RAW MATERIALS AT

THE INVENTORY LEVEL IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN

Scope: This research was carried out in the framework of a case study at a producing
organization in Hungary. The selected case is the producing organization located in the North-
Great Plain Region in Hungary. Analyses were performed using the relevant data from the
inventory reports exported by the SAP as provided by the enterprise. The research was
performed in the examined enterprise between 1st – 14th July 2016.

Objective: The primary purpose is to keep their inventory value at the lowest possible rate to
minimize costs. To this end, the investigated organization operates several processes. One of
them is the so-called Vendor Managed Inventory [VMI], in which the supplier manages the
inventory at the customer and the second is the consignment inventory processing, in which
suppliers store goods at the customer location. The principal goal of this paper is to examine
whether the application of these methods may result in cost-effective savings for the examined
organization and if yes, to what extent.

Methods: The selected case is the producing organization located in the North-Great Plain
Region in Hungary. Analyses were performed using the relevant data from the inventory reports
exported by the SAP as provided by the enterprise.

Results:
The situation analysed in this study provides an opportunity to describe the bullwhip effect and
to demonstrate the opportunities to reduce it. This study found that the investigated company
could save considerable amounts on packaging materials. We examined six high-volume
packaging materials to identify the amount of potential savings. The process is recommended for
the company to maintain it in the future; moreover, to expand it in the circle of new suppliers as
well. The other investigated method for the minimization of inventory levels was the
consignment procurement process. It can be concluded that consignment procurement process is
the best method to reduce the examined costs.
The obtained results draw the attention of Hungarian and international enterprises to the
importance of conscious supply chain management and the wide range of tools which are
available for the development of supply chain efficiency, thereby achieving a higher level of
customer service.
