GRADE 6 - BACK TO SCHOOL


LESSON PLAN

Objectives: The activities are designed to:


- Boost up students’ energy and enthusiasm during the first week back to school.
- Create friendly and interactive atmosphere between the students and teachers.

Activity 1: THE VIRUS INFECTION


Materials: Powerpoint activity 1
Procedure:
- Ask students to sit in a big circle.
- Teacher show a topic on the screen, and touch the first student to infect the virus. This student
will say a word related to this topic and quickly run to touch another friend in the circle to say a
different word in this topic.
- The same procedure will be initiated until one cannot produce any more words. He/ She will be
punished by rewriting the words on the board.

Activity 2: THE SMASHER CONQUEROR


Materials: A long stick for popping balloons (x1), Balloons (4 different colours), powerpoint

Procedure:
- Explain to students that their objective in this game is to trying to get the flag in the stand at the
center of the room first.
- Each group will have 5 balloons indicating 5 lives.
- The teacher will show a question, and give signal “3, 2, 1, Go” and then call a number,
students with the same number will rush to the stand and try to take the flag. Student who get the
flag has to go back to his/her team without having any other students touching him/her. Student
who touches the student with the flag will get the flag for his/her team. The team that has the flag
will get the chance to answer the question.
- If they give the correct answer, they can pop one balloon of other groups.
- At the end of the game, scores will be given to teams in accordance to the number of balloons
they have.

Activity 3: PAPER FOLDING


Materials: Big-size square paper big enough for 6-7 students to stand on (x4), mini board (x4), a
box of chalk, powerpoint activity 3
Procedure:
- Students are divided into equal separate groups of boys or girls. Give each group a mini board.
- Teacher will read a question on the screen and teams will discuss and write down the answer
within 15 seconds.
- Have all of the groups show their answers.
- Any groups giving wrong answer will have to fold the paper in half and stand in it. The group
not being able to stand in the paper will lose the game.
- Scores will be given to teams in accordance to how big their papers are.
- 200, 175, 150, 125, 100, 75, 50, 25, 0

Activity 4: WHERE DOES THE COMMUNICATION GO WRONG?


Materials: Printed worksheet.
Procedure:
- Review the Present Continuous form:
S + to be + V-ing
- Explain that students will take part in an activity where they will guess the activity from their
partner’s body gesture.
- Assign one group to play at a time. Ask them to stand in the straight line, looking to the board,
the last student in the back will turn back to their team.
- She/ He is going to see a picture, describe the activity to the front partner, using gesture only.
The process continues to the first of the line.
- The first student will guess the activity, using the Present Continuous from to say the complete
sentence.
- Then, teacher reveals the answer to see how much it has changed from the last student.
- Each group will be challenged with 4 – 5 pictures
- The correct guess will have 100 points.

Activity 5: THE ROUTINE POSTER


Materials: Poster worksheet, crayons.
Procedure:
- Lead to the activity by talking about the coronavirus and the time they stay at home.
- Explain that students are going to make a poster of what they did at home during the time off
by the coronavirus.
- Divide students into equal groups. Give each group a worksheet and crayons. Ask students to
draw the activities they did at home and have group discussion to make a small presentation of
the poster.
- Teacher gets around, helping the students and interact with them.
- After 7 – 10 minutes, teacher asks the groups to the board to present their work.
