Volcanoes
Cinder cones are the simplest type of volcano. They are
built from particles and blobs of congealed lava ejected
from a single vent. As the gas-charged lava is blown
Cinder cones violently into the air, it breaks into small fragments
that solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form
a circular or oval cone. Most cinder cones have a bowl-
shaped crater at the summit and rarely rise more than a
thousand feet or so above their surroundings. Cinder cones are numerous in
western North America as well as throughout other volcanic terrains of the
world.
-Has a large magma chamber, which is an underground
reservoir filled with flowing, hot rock under huge
Supervolcanoe pressures. Scientists believe that a supervolcano
explosion is big enough to affect everyone on the
s planet. A supervolcanic eruption is rare.
Shield Volcanoes are built almost entirely of fluid lava flows. Flow after
flow pours out in all directions from a central
summit vent, or group of vents, building a broad,
Shield gently sloping cone of flat, domical shape, with a
profile much like that of a warrior's shield. They
Volcanoes are built up slowly by the accretion of thousands
of highly fluid lava flows called basalt lava that
spread widely over great distances, and then cool
as thin, gently dipping sheets. shield volcanoes.
Are common features of the ocean floor. In shallow
water, active volcanoes disclose their presence by
Submarine blasting steam and rocky debris high above the ocean's
surface. In the ocean's deep, the tremendous weight of
Volcanoes the water above prevents the explosive release of steam
and gases; however, they can be detected by hydrophones
and discoloration of water because of volcanic gases .
Has no center crater at all. Instead has giant cracks open
in the ground and expels vast amount of lavas. Fissure
Fissure volcano A linear fracture on the Earth's surface through
which lavas, pyroclastics, and gas are erupted and
Volcanoes effused. The eruptive products accumulate most thickly
along the linear fracture and build up an elongate, low-
angle shield or higher-angle cone topography, constituting the volcanic pile.
A complex volcano, also called a compound volcano, is
mixed landform consisting of related volcanic centers and
Complex their associated lava flows and pyroclastic rock. They
may form due to changes in eruptive habit or in the
volcanoes location of the principal vent area on a particular
volcano.
