Project Plan

I plan to volunteer at the Utah Pride Center. I will be working to help

maintain the building as well as talking to youth who identify as apart
of the LGBT+ community. I will help with events and talk to people
about the Center and hopefully help those who could benefit from it
find it.

Civic Engagement

To me, Civic engagement means to be involved in the development of

positive attributes in the community in which you live. Being able to
use one’s time and abilities to help others in the community.

Personal Culture

I am a white heterosexual male in my mid to late 20’s. I attend college

at Salt Lake Community college and I am in pursuit of an Associate’s
Degree in Communications. I am in a lower economic class as I am
working part time and going to school full time. I consider myself to be
politically independent as I will vote for whichever candidate that I
feel would do the best job.

Culture Groups

I anticipated working with a wide variety of culture groups in the array

of sexuality. I fall into the group of Heterosexual and the culture
groups that I will be working with will mostly be anything but
heterosexual. This can range from Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and
Pansexual. As well as Queer and Transgender Groups.
Challenges

I don’t think I will have too many challenges with this group. I can see
myself having a hard time understanding some social norms that are
inherently secluded to the LGBT+ community. I do not know if there is
anything that I can or cannot say to them and do not want to offend
anyone.

Benefits

I really love learning about others and trying to help them with their
situation. There is just something to helping people that really helps
you feel good. I hope I am able to make friends through this
opportunity and learn to see things from another perspective.
