TECHNICAL BRIEF
SETTING THE GRID PROFILE - EN50438:2007 DEFAULT PROFILE
This guide shows you how to select and modify a grid profile using the Envoy interface. You can configure a
grid profile to meet local requirements.

Caution
Enphase provides this Grid Profile configuration only as a suggested guideline for
interoperation with the local electric utility grid. Check the voltage and frequency trip point
requirements of your local electrical utility before making adjustments to the Grid Profile
and confirm that the suggested parameters conform to local requirements.
Nuisance tripping, production losses, and product damage can occur when the Grid
Profile does not match local frequency and voltage requirements. The Enphase Limited
Warranty does not cover nuisance tripping, production losses, or damage resulting from
mismatch or from electric utility grid variance.
Only an authorised installer, with the permission and following the requirements of the
local electrical utility, should make Grid Profile adjustments.
Final responsibility of the grid setting is the installer’s and Enphase assumes no liability for
errors or non-compliance as a result of this process.

Activate the System and Register the Envoy

1. Log in to Enlighten (enlighten.enphaseenergy.com).
2. From the Installations In Progress widget on the Installer
Dashboard, click Add a New System.

3. On the Activations form, enter the System, Owner, and

Location information. Select the appropriate country as
the Country location.
4. In the Envoy section, enter the Envoy serial number.
5. Make sure you have filled in the required information.
Scroll down the Activations form and click Save.

Install the Envoy
1. Plug the Envoy into a dedicated AC outlet near the load center
(panel where the solar circuits land).
2. Connect the Envoy to the Internet.
3. Check that the Envoy LCD window displays +Web. The Envoy
software automatically updates within 15-20 minutes of
powering on.
4. Check that the Envoy has detected all of the microinverters
installed at the site. Do this by verifying that the Devices count
on the LCD window matches the number of microinverters
installed.
5. Verify that the power line communication signal Level is at least
three bars.
6. Press and hold the Envoy menu button, then release when the
LCD window displays Enable Communication Check.

Log In to the Envoy Interface

1. Connect a computer to the same network (same broadband router) as the
Envoy and open an Internet browser.
2. In the browser address window, enter the IP address shown on the Envoy
LCD window.

3. From the Envoy home screen, click

Administration.

4. Enter admin for username and admin for

password, then select OK. The Envoy Administration
page displays.

Create the Grid Profile for your Region

1. From the Envoy Administration menu, select Device Grid Configuration.

2. From the Select Grid Profiles section, click Manage Profiles.

3. From the Country regulatory specification drop-

down list, select Other LN MES-50-230. MES-50-
230-1405 displays in the Grid Profile.
4. From the Profile Name list, select MES-50-230-1405.

The Edit Profile page displays.

5. In the Profile name field of the Edit Profile page, enter a new name for the profile, such as EN50438: 2007
Country_Name. Where “Country_Name” is the country where the system is located.
6. Change the following parameters to the
values listed here:

Parameter Value
Voltage limits
Over voltage limit No Change
Over voltage trip time 0.2 s
Over voltage limit (slow) 264.5 V
Over voltage trip time (slow) 0.2 s
Under voltage limit No Change
Under voltage trip time 1.5 s
Remaining parameters No Change

Parameter Value
Frequency limits
Over frequency limit 51.0 Hz
Over frequency trip time 0.5 s
Over frequency limit (slow) 51.0 Hz
Over frequency trip time (slow) 0.5 s
Under frequency Limit 47.0 Hz
Under frequency trip time 0.5 s
Under frequency limit (slow) 47.0 Hz
Under frequency trip time (slow) 0.5 s
Remaining parameters No Change

Parameter Value
Reconnect
Short Term reconnect time 20.0 s
Long Term reconnect time 20.0 s
Reconnect AC frequency high No Change
Reconnect AC frequency low No Change
Reconnect on frequency trip Disable
Reconnect AC voltage high No Change
Reconnect AC voltage low No Change
Reconnect on voltage trip Disable
Reconnect time 20.0 s
Reconnect power ramp up rate No Change
Remaining parameters No Change

7. Click Make Copy. This creates your grid profile, EN50438: 2007
Country_Name.
8. Click Save Profile.

Apply the Grid Profile to the Microinverters
To apply your custom Grid Profile, you must select your grid profile from the Envoy Device Grid Configuration
menu.
NOTE: A Profile Change Token is not required the first time an Envoy grid profile is modified. Any subsequent changes to
the grid profile require additional steps. For more information about generating a Profile Change Token, refer to the Envoy
Communications Gateway Installation & User Manual.

1. Go back to the Envoy Administration page and select Device Grid

Configuration.

2. In the Select Grid section, select

Other LN MES-50-230 from the Profile Country
regulatory specification drop-down list.

3. From the Grid profile drop-down list, select

the grid profile you created, EN50438: 2007
Country_Name, for example. The grid
profile you created displays.

4. Scroll down to the Apply Grid Profile

section.

5. Click Apply Grid Profile. The

microinverter software updates
automatically, and the grid profile
propagates to the microinverters. A
Grid Profile Incompatible alert may
display but clears automatically when
the update is complete.

Continue with System Activation. For details, refer to the Enlighten Help Center in Enlighten or to the Envoy
Communications Gateway Installation & User Manual found on www.enphase.com/support.
