Essential Question:   Why are females more prone to ACL tears compared to males?

Three Points to Prove: #1:  The build of a female body is different than male
#2:  The mechanics of a female body opperates different than males.
#3: The cycles that a female body goes through hurts the knees more.

Point that this Source Proves: #2 The Mechanics of a female body opperates different than
males?

Excerpts (These should provide insight into the Point to Prove):

Tiani Madriaga reports the mental aspect of havig an injury such as tearing your ACL. She
reports that “Most of the time females tear their ACL, especially teens, they rarely ever come
back to the sport. “

Madriaga states that “Females tend to have a smaller support group when they are trying to
recover”

Tiani shines light on the relationship between injured athletes and their superiors, “The mind of a
female can be much weaker and sensitized compared to a male. Sometimes coaches do not have
faith in the athletes, to get back to 100%”

Analysis (How does this source support the Point to Prove?):

This interview provided very good information on the mental aspect of a female ACL
tear. As a female, it is very tricky to come back from such a traumatizing injury. Many studies
showed that sometimes the female may have a more sensitive thought process compared to men.
Most of the time a teen tears their ACL, they rarely come back to the sport due to the fact that it
can be too hard on them mentally.
Having a solid support group is very important for a recovery process of an injury to this
extent. Most of the time, females tend to actually have a smaller support group than males, due to
the fact that females take longer to heal. Females have a smaller ACL and a different landing
mechanic. When they heal, this can mean that they have to rebuild their landing positions. This
leads to a way longer recovery process and it can be detrimental mentally to females.
Sometimes coaches, parents or even athletic directors are not always on the same page as
the people who are injured. Some physical therapist may be harder to contact meaning the wait is
even longer. The fate of your injury depends on you and the therapist, which involves a lot of
trust. Most times we do not think about how much we depend on the small things in our body.
Sometimes these superiors can restrict athletes from performing to their best potential.
