Question1: A painter is paid x rupees for painting every 10 metres of a wall and a y
rupees for painting every extra metre. During one week, he painted 10 metres on
Monday, 13 metres on Tuesday, 12 metres on Wednesday, 11 metres on Thursday
and 12 metres on Friday. What is his average daily earning in rupees for the five day
week?

Answer. Step-by-step explanation:

Cost of painting 10 meters is x
Cost for painting every extra meters than 10 =y
On Monday he painted 10 meters
So, Cost of 10 meters = x
On Tuesday he painted 13 meters
So, Cost of 10 meters = x
Cost of extra 3 meters = 3y
Total cost for Tuesday = x+3y
On Wednesday he painted 12 meters
So, Cost of 10 meters = x
Cost of extra 2 meters = 2y
Total cost for Wednesday = x+2y
On Thursday he painted 11 meters
So, Cost of 10 meters = x
Cost of extra 1 meters = y
Total cost for Thursday= x+y
On Friday he painted 12 meters
So, Cost of 10 meters = x
Cost of extra 2 meters = 2y
Total cost for Friday= x+2y

So, Total cost = x+x+3y+x+2y+x+y+x+2y = 5x+8 So,

The total for week is 5x+8y.

ASSIGNMENT -3 (APTITUDE TDZ-659)

Hence the average daily earning in rupees for the five day week is .

Question 2: The average sale of a car dealership was 15 cars per week. After a
promotional scheme, the average sale increased to 21 cars per week . The percentage
increase in the sale of cars was ?
Answer.
Number of cars sold per week originally = 15 × 7 = 105
Number of cars sold per week under scheme = 21 × 7 = 147
Increase in sale = 147 - 105 = 42
∴ Percentage increase
= (42105×100)%
= (4200105)%
= 40%

Question3: There are twice the number of two wheelers as there are three wheelers
and the number of 4 wheelers are equal to the number of two wheelers. The average
number of wheels per vehicle is
Answer:

Let number of 2 wheelers equal to x.

Let number of 3 wheelers equal to y.

Let number of 4 wheelers equal to z.

Given that, y = x /2 x = z

Total number of vehicles is y + x + z

= x/2 + x + x = x /2 + 2x = x + 4x / 2 = 5x/2

Total number of wheels = 3y + 2x + 4z

= 3 × x/2 + 2x + 4 × x
= 3x/2 + 2x + 4x

= 3x + 4x + 8x /2

= 15x/2

ATUL KUMAR (19MBA1750) 3

ASSIGNMENT -3 (APTITUDE TDZ-659)

Average number of wheels per vehicles = total number of wheels / total number of vehicles

Average = 15x/2 ÷ 5x/2

Average = 15x/2 × 2/ 5x

Average = 15x/5

Average = 3

Therefore average number of wheels per vehicles is 3.

Question 1: Three brothers A, B, C together purchased a car of worth 2,40,000 Rs.

Mr. A contributed 1/2 of the total amount contributed by the other two brothers.
Mr. C contributed 1/3 of the total amount contributed by the other two brothers.
Find the contribution made by Mr. B.
Answer:
A’s combination = 1/2 X 240000 = 120000

B’s combination = 1/3 X 120000 = 40,000

C’s combination = Total Combination- (A’s combination + B’s combination)

= 240000 – (160000)

= 80000.

So, Contribution made by Mr. B is Rs. 80,000.

Question2: The ratio of squares of first n natural numbers to a square of sum of

first n natural numbers is 17:325. The value of n is:

Answer:
Sum of squares of first n natural numbers
= ∑n2= n(n+1)(2n+1)6
Squares of sum of first n natural numbers
= (∑n)2=n(n+1)2×n(n+1)2
Now the ratio is
= n(n+1)(2n+1)6 : n(n+1)2×n(n+1)2=17:325
⇒ (2n+13)(n(n+1)2)=17325
⇒2(2n+1)3n(n+1)=17325
⇒650(2n+1)= 51n(n+1)
⇒1300n+650=51n2+51n
⇒51n2−1300n+51n−650=0
⇒51n2−1249n−650=0

Upon solving the above equation, we get,

n=25, −0.5098

Out of these two, n=25 is there in the solution.

Question1. A dishonest grocer professes to sell pure butter at cost price, but he
mixes it with adulterated fat and thereby gains 25%. Find the percentage of
adulterated fat in the mixture assuming that adulterated fat is freely available?
Answer:

Let the adulterated fat = 0 Rs.

Butter = Rs 1

C.P of mixture = 1x 100 /125

= 4/5 Rs

= 1:4 of adulterated fat = 1/5 x 100

= 20%

Question2: A jar full of milk contains 40% water. A part of this milk is replaced by
another containing 19% water and now the percentage of water is now found to be
26%. The quantity of milk replaced is:

Answer:

The ratio of milk in two mix are 40 and 19 and the final is 26.
By the weighted average method

ATUL KUMAR (19MBA1750) 5

ASSIGNMENT -3 (APTITUDE TDZ-659)

Qty of 19% in final mix = (40-26)/(40-19)

=14/21
=2/3
Initially there was nothing and 19% has come by replacement, so 2.3 of initial quantity has been
replaced.
