Workers
Compensation Act
The Workers Compensation Act was created to help anyone
who is injured at work to ensure that they receive the
compensation necessary be safe and healthy at work.
Specifically, it ensures that individuals injured at work receive
appropriate no-fault compensation necessary. This
compensation could include: lost income or any health related
expenses.

ATA Code of Conduct

The Code of Professional Conduct stipulates minimum standards of


professional conduct of teachers but is not an exhaustive list of such
standards. Unless exempted by legislation, any member of The
Alberta Teachers' Association who is alleged to have violated the
standards of the profession, including the provisions of the code, may
be subject to a charge of unprofessional conduct under the bylaws of
the Association.

What Is Unprofessional Conduct?
Unprofessional conduct is behaviour by an ATA
member that exhibits any of the following
characteristics:
● Is detrimental to the best interests of students, the
public or the teaching profession.
● Contravenes the Teaching Profession Act or the
Code of Professional Conduct.
● Has the potential to harm the standing of teachers
generally.
● Leads to a conviction on an indictable offence.

Education in Alberta is governed by several acts, the most important of
which are the School Act, the Teaching Profession Act and the Public
Education Collective Bargaining Act.
Each of these acts, in turn, refers to a number of regulations.
