Storefront grants continued from front
to apply for up to $1,000 in façade improvements
which may include but are not limited to: signage,
windows, paint, lighting, awnings, landscaping, and
sidewalk improvements.
This is a competitive grant with limited funding.
Each grant received by the Two Rivers Beautification
Committee will be scored using a five-point scoring
system in the following categories: Organization,
Promotion, Design, Need, & Enhancement of Curb
Appeal.
Should your project be chosen for funding, the
project must be completed within one year of the
date on your award notification letter. An extension
may be granted upon request. All projects must
meet State of City/Town zoning regulations. All
required building permits must be in place before
commencement of the project.
The grant deadline is June 12, 2020 and
awards will be announced by June 26, 2020. The
grant application can be picked up at the Two
Rivers/Chamber office or accessed on the website
growvalleycounty.com under Newsroom tab.

In addition to the regular bid for congregate meals, the Valley County
Commissioners are soliciting bids for preparation of congregate meals and
home delivered meals at the Senior Center in Glasgow. Meals could either
be prepared on site or delivered to the Senior Center five days a week.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of County Commissioners
of Valley County, Montana, will receive sealed written bids for congregate
meals in Fort Peck, Nashua, Hinsdale, Opheim, and Glasgow, and home
delivered meal bids for the elderly for July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. Meals
served must be acceptable to the elderly consumer and meet 1/3 RDA.
Meals will be served on days and times mutually agreed upon by the two
parties. The following meal pattern is required:
Meat or meat alternative - 3 edible ounces
Vegetables and Fruit - 3 servings
Vegetable serving = 1 cup leafy greens or ½ cup cooked
Fruit serving = ½ cup or 1 serving
Grains - 2 servings
(whole grains: 100% whole wheat breads, pasta, brown rice)
Milk or dairy equivalent - 1 serving
Coffee or hot tea
The caterer is responsible for following all safety and sanitation
regulations as established by the State of Montana. The caterer is
responsible for paying all costs of food, supplies, labor, and other costs
as necessary in providing the meals. Meals may be served on site or at
another location. The location of meals served on site must be accessible
to people with disabilities. Bids must be received in the courthouse by
5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Bids will be opened at 10:00 a.m.
on May 6, 2020. Special consideration for the home delivered meal bid will
be given for the services of a dietician.

Montana gubernatorial debates airing Saturday

With so much of our attention rightly focused on
all of the coronavirus news, and the economic fallout
from the COVID-19 closures — much of the election
news has been pushed off to the sideline. But, as absentee
ballots are soon to be shipped out to voters all across
Montana- the important primary debates will come back
in to focus.
One of the biggest elections this year in Montana,
aside from the US Senate race, is the race for governor. If
you’re hoping to see all the candidates on one stage....er
screen...stay tuned this weekend. The Greater Montana
Foundation and the Montana Broadcasters Association
are teaming up to co-sponsor gubernatorial debates for
both the Democrat and Republican primary contests.
The debates will air live on several Montana radio
and tv stations Saturday, May 2nd. Each debate will be 60
minutes long.
Ron Davis, the chairman of The Greater Montana
Foundation, and Greg Pace, the chairman of the Montana
Broadcasters Association, added these details:
Originally scheduled to take place at the MTN Studios
in Great Falls, they will now take place virtually, with
all participants in separate locations around the state.
Broadcasts will not be live, local stations will need to be
checked for dates and times. Stations have been requested
to not broadcast earlier than 6:00 pm that evening.
Greater Montana Foundation is providing funding for the
debates.
Those participating are Democratic candidates Lt.
Governor Mike Cooney and businesswomen Whitney
Williams, and Republican candidates, US Representative
Greg Gianforte, Attorney General Tim Fox and Montana
State Senator Al Olszewski.
Ron Davis, GMF Board Chair and President of
Butte Broadcasting will serve as moderator. Panelists are
Mike Dennison, Montana Television Network; Cyndy
Koures, NBC Montana; and Taylor Tucker, Cowles
Media. Questions will not be available in advance nor
solicited from the public. Panelists will decide on the
questions.

magnets and showed how they would pick up nails and
other bits of iron.
Now it was question time, and she asked, “My
name begins with the letter ‘M’ and I pick up things.
What am I?”
A little boy on the front row proudly said, “You’re a
mother!”
Mrs. Green lived in two story house together with
an elderly widow. After not hearing from her for a few
days, she got a bit nervous.
“Johnny”, she called to her son “do me a favor and
go find out how old Mrs. Robinson is.”
So Little Johnny went down the stairs and knocked
on Mrs. Robinson’s door.

The teacher says to her new class, “For our first

Billy stands up and says, “My name’s Billy. My
father’s a lawyer, l-a-w-y-e-r, and he defends people in
court.”
The teacher says, “Very good. You next, Tyrone.”
Tyrone stands up and says, “My name’s Tyrone. My

The teacher says, “Tyrone, you go home tonight and
learn how to spell pharmacist. Okay, you next, Angelo.”
Angelo stands up and says, “My name’s Angelo.
My old man’s a bookie, b-o-o-k-i-e, and if he was here,
he’d give you nine-to-five odds Tyrone ain’t spellin’

Starting January 2020, the Valley County Refuse
District #1 is limiting use of the container sites (blue
containers) to the dumping of household garbage
only. If a load contains any items other than daily
household garbage, the scale and landfill must be
used to dispose of those items. If a load weighs less
than 400 pounds, a flat rate of $5.00 per load will be
assessed. Anything in excess of that amount will be
charged based upon tonnage. If the cost of a load is
under $20.00, payment will be required to be made
at the scale. Individuals not using the scale when
required will be assessed fees according to the
following schedule adopted by the Refuse District:
• Pickup, Single Axel Trailer - $100.00 per load
• Tandem Axel Trailer, Single Axel Farm Truck -
$200.00 per load
• Tandem Axel Farm Truck, Triple Axel Trailer -
$400.00 per load
After notice of a fee being assessed is given,
failure to pay in a timely manner it may be deemed a
theft of services and will be referred to Valley County
Sheriff’s Office and could result in prosecution.
The following items ARE NOT considered
household garbage items:
• Railroad Ties
• Construction Material
• Shingles/Roofing Material
• Tires
The taxes assessed on properties are to provide
for disposal of household garbage, and other items
must be paid for separately as a result.
Landfill hours are Monday through Friday from
7:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am
to 12:00 pm. Refuse District Board meetings are
held the third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 pm.
