When I initially enrolled in this course, I did so because it would meet a requirement for
my major. I had my fingers crossed that I could breeze through the class and never have to think
about it again. When I first read through the syllabus, I realized I had my work cut out for me – I
began to wonder if I should find something else. I am so glad I stuck with it. EDT 180 has been
challenging, eye-opening and fun since the first module. Each objective taught me something
One of the most beneficial weeks of this course was that of the Microsoft Excel module. I
have had very little experience with this software. I was eager to put Excel proficiency on my
resume but never made the time to learn how to use it. Thankfully, EDT 180 did that for me. Just
the simple screencast tutorial was enough for me to learn how to use a program that, before,
seemed a little too complex to understand on my own. I was grateful I was given the opportunity
to learn Excel in a classroom setting, without fear of judgement. I look forward to adding it to
One of the most fun modules in this class was the week that we made an infographic
using Piktochart. EDT 180 introduced me to some very helpful free-to-use programs and
Piktochart was by far one of my favorites. I was able to choose a topic that I was personally very
interested in and utilize some of my graphic design skills to put together a project that I was
overall very pleased with. If anything, this course has really shown me that I can use these
programs creatively.

I wanted to talk about the objective that I found the most challenging. The Digital
Storytelling module was one of the more intimidating assignments in this class. It was by far the
most time consuming and I had to overcome quite a few obstacles. Developing a script that met
the time requirements ended up being harder than I anticipated. Once I wrote something I was
satisfied with, I had quite a lot of trouble actually filming it. I must have shot my video half a
dozen times before I finally accepted one of the takes. I found it hard to build the desired amount
of confidence. This module made me realize, though, that I should be more confident because I
know what I’m talking about. It was awkward to edit the footage as I don’t like watching or
listening to myself talk but I ended up being satisfied with the finished product.
In general, EDT 180 was a fun course and I would highly recommend it to my peers.
From reviewing Microsoft Word to making an entire website, I think this class shows students
how this technology can be used across a broad range of industries. I will definitely be utilizing
everything I learned in my future career and I look forward to shocking my employers with my
diverse skillset.
