How hip-hop works for the public

With more and more stress from various aspects in society, the combination of lyrics and

spitches becomes much more important to people’s lives; music gives people the healing from

several sides so that they are all unique works from every singer. The influence of music

becomes various which can be shown in the attitude to their lives, what they want to do in the

future or the encouragement for the future. The audience is easier to realize how they feel during

mostly four minutes and find the most direct feeling of the song so the agency of music is the

most direct way to lead the audience. Hip-hop is not only one type of music, the popular music

also represents the style of one group of singers and gives their audience what they want to show

with their own style. The theme of every work is certainly unlimited and the multiplity provides

a wider range for the audience to pick their favourite. The agency of hip-hop is more than people

thought, the audience will have different choices with different situations, environments or time

period. The reason why I think it is important to find the influence of one piece of music is

important is that people can find the most real persona in their most wanted work.

According to ‘Yo Perreo Sola’ by Bad Bunny, the first impression to me is firstly the

language barrier, but the tempo of this hip-hop song is attractive and the music video used a

strong color shock to me. After I researched the translation of the lyrics, the theme is about

dancing alone and this immediately becomes an anthem for Latinx and Hispanic folks who are

socially distancing during the coronavirus pandemic. However, the meaning behind the trend is

to show the meaning that women can also dance freely by themselves. The most interesting
characteristic of the song is its lyrics which can be understood on the surface or from a deeper

meaning, the lyrics from the music video can be easier to understand their deeper meaning of

gender inequality and sexual violence. Most importantly, the audience can get different meanings

of songs through different ways to observe this work. For example, people will just realize ‘Yo

Perreo Sola’ is just one work which motivated people to dance freely. However, if you watch the

music video, you will realize the hidden meaning of the song is for the freedom of women and

the call to arm for the group which cannot get the chance to be themselves. Bad Bunny used this

latest work to motivate people and the society to have the sense of gender equality which is

essential especially to women.

Hip-hop music makes people have the most direct impression of different works,

sometimes people will say this kind of music explains their theme just like the description of

lyrics without deeper meanings. In contrast, the way to find the charm of hip-hop cannot only be

observed from the lyrics. It is important to have a look at their music videos, tempo and

background. The agency of music can be shown in several ways to various groups of people and

that should be the most attractive point for me to enjoy it.
