WHAT?

Katipunan is born
- Andres Bonifacio was also a member of La Liga Filipina, although he soon lost hope in
gaining reforms though peaceful means.
- This feeling was especially heightened when Jose Rizal was exiled to Dapitan.
- Bonifacio became convinced that the only way the Philippines could gain independence
was through a revolution.
WHEN?
- The KKK was organized on July 7, 1892
WHERE?
- In the house of Deodato Arellano on Azcarraga street (now Claro M. Recto), in Tondo
Manila.
WHO?

There were 6 founders of the Katipunan


1. Ladislao Diwa
- Masonic Name: Baguio

2. Teodoro Plata
- Masonic Name: Balany

3. Andres Bonifacio
- Masonic Name: Sinukuan

4. Deodato Arellano
- Masonic name: Buan
5. Jose Dizon
- Masonic name: Montgomery

6. Valentin Diaz
- Masonic name: Tupas

HOW?
The Triangle System
- The members agreed to recruit more people
using the “triangle system” of enlistment.
- Each original member would recruit tow new
members who were not related to each other.
- Each new member would do the same thing, and
so on down the line.

OBJECTIVES OF THE KKK


1. POLITICAL GOAL
- Completely separate the Philippines from Spain after declaring the country’s
independence.
2. MORAL GOAL
- Teach the Filipinos good manners, cleanliness, hygiene, fine morals, and how to
guard themselves against religious fanaticism.
3. CIVIC GOAL
- Encourage Filipinos to help themselves and to defend the poor oppressed.
KATIPUNAN FLAGS
- There were 3 variations of the first flag of the KKK that was used by the
Katipuneros
- Gregoria De Jesus, the wife of Andres Bonifacio, was tasked by his
husband to create a flag for the society
- The flag consists of a red flag bearing the society's acronym, KKK, white and
arranged horizontally at the center. This became the society's first flag.
The Magdiwang Council Flag
- It had 16 rays which had indefinite meaning to
historians with the baybayin letter of Ka in the middle.
- It was believed that it was the flag used during the tearing of their
cedulas
The Magdalo Council
- Consisted of 8 rays representing the provinces that Spanish
colonial authorities placed under martial law.
- This was actually later used in the national flag of the Philippines.

Achievements:
- The first Philippine republic was established.
Important Role:
- The katipuneros role is very different according to their status.
- They fight, make plans or make new members.(these roles are
mostly for men)
Achievements:
- Other roles are mostly made by the women in the Katipunan.
- Examples are healing the people who went to fight or helping look
for a person to join.
Important Role:
- The Filipinos gained freedom from the Spaniards
