Universal Design for Learning (UDL

This is a fun interactive non-academic activity that will incorporate every student, inciting their enthusiasm
and appetite both literally and technologically. Irrespective of the levels whether gifted, ESL or challenged,
the creation of this PowerPoint allows them to utilize both fine and gross motor skills, putting them right in
the limelight as they can use this productivity tool to teach others the processes involved in the activity.

Lesson idea implementation

The teacher, from questions initiated by students, prepare lesson on a new topic of healthy food choices. The
teacher plans, gets permission, and invites guests to demonstrate and incorporate students in the activity of
making apple sauce. The teacher gathers all needed supplies and sets up area prior to activity. The activity is
announced to the students through the crisscross applesauce song and dance, followed by introduction to the
guest.
Students listens carefully and follow directions as the guests walks everyone through the food groups. The
food group lesson extends beyond the applesauce activity, which lasts for one day. They follow the simple
steps of making applesauce, utilizing cognitive as well as fine motor skills in the process. The finished product
sensitizes them to the differences in textures and smells, and tastes, as everyone gets to participate in eating
and sharing what they made.
To assess students, they take turns sharing what they learned about food groups and the steps they learned
to make apple sauce. The guest and teacher aids students in recording their learning in PowerPoint format to
share on the school or class blog, encouraging the student body and other to make healthy food choices.

Reflective Practice: This hands-on activity serves to enhance students’ learning, which extends beyond the
classroom through the PowerPoint created, as it reinforces the lesson and increases their LoTi levels. This
lesson can be further extended as they can use their devices to access other basic productivity tools such as
Microsoft word to create a food group chart for display in their home. With the help of their parents and
guardians, students can embed these charts as screen flavors on their devices. This will keep the facts from
the lesson current. ESL learners will have the opportunity to group foods in both languages.
