Topic: diets, cooking, shopping for food, nutrition
Communicative function: Talking about your everyday diet, eating habits
Interaction: pairs

a. vocabulary associated with the topic of nutrition

c. language banks from unit 5 online sessions
Length of video: Your video should last from 1´30” to 2´
Technical requirements:
 email, Workplace or any social network to make arrangements with your partner
 any video recording tool
 any video editing tool, if necessary
Note: If you use www.Youtube.com to make the video, change video privacy setting to “public” so your
teacher can view it.
Assessment criteria:
 pronunciation and intonation
 accuracy
 interactive communication
 task achievement (organization, clarity and use of webcam)

Timeline and deadline:
This task should be prepared along week 5.
Each student must upload their video or paste the link to your video on Blackboard (Unit 5 file) by Sunday,
May 3rd 2020 at 23:59 p.m.

ORAL PRODUCTION TASK INSTRUCTIONS


English 1

Work in pairs. Together plan, practice and record a conversation.


Situation:
You have read about what Unicef recommends to maintain a nutritious diet during the
coronavirus disease. See the link in Before recording box.
Now, talk together about what you and your family usually eat, and what you ae eating
these days during quarantine because of Covd-19.
Start a conversation.
Continue the conversation. Talk about:
 what food you family usually eat – Say why.
 how much food your family usually buys
 what food you usually have at home
 what food you and your family don’t eat/like much – Say why.
 what you and your family are eating these days of mandatory confinement because
of Covid-19 – Say why.
Ask and answer questions to keep the conversation going.
End your conversation.

PROCEDURE

Before recording
 Review unit 5 on English Discoveries.
 Read and do exercises in Unit 5 Use of English file on Blackboard.
 Do exercises from Unit 5 Practice resource files on Blackboard.
 Read “Easy, affordable and healthy eating tips during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak”

 Read the oral production task instructions carefully.
 Together, plan how you are going to start, develop and end your conversation. Some improvisation is
welcome though.
 When planning, use the vocabulary and grammar structures you have learned in Unit 5. See Target
language above.
You can start like this:
Student A: Hi, Mariana.
Student B: Hi, Alex. How are you?
Student A: Fine, thanks. How about you?
Student B: I am okay. I was making models for Modelación estructural 2. My favorite subject. And,
I’m eating dried fruits now. Look at them, just like Unicef recommends.
Student: A: Do you usually eat dried fruits? They are healthy.
Student B: Well, my family loves healthy snacks. We always have lots of raisins, pecans, nuts,
pistachio and figs at home. My mom doesn’t like snacks with sweeteners. How about you? Do you
eat healthy snacks?
Student A: Yes, I do. But I prefer yoghurt. We buy a few bottles of yoghurt every week. Well, now my
brother does the shopping every two weeks so he gets 4 bottles for all of us. These days, we’re
eating…

 Make sure both of you will speak equally.
 Practice some times before recording the final version of your video.

 Look at the camera while you talk (as often as possible).

 Show objects, pictures or other people doing things, if necessary.
 Use nonverbal communication.

After recording
 Make sure both of you have spoken equally.
 Make sure your video respects the time limit.
 Test your video works well before sending the link or uploading the video file.
 Paste the link of your video or upload the video file and the script (the script is referential) in the
Assignment section (actividad in Unit 5) on Blackboard. Each student should do so.
 Check you have submitted your assignment in Review submission history (Revisar historial de envios).
