FINAL EXAM

EECE 3410
Spring 2020 Name:
By writing my name I affirm that all work shown is my own

Read all of the following information before starting the exam:

➢ Show all work, clearly and in order, if you want to get full credit. I reserve
the right to take off points if I cannot see how you arrived at your answer
(even if your final answer is correct).
➢ Justify your answers algebraically whenever possible to ensure full credit.
➢ Circle or otherwise indicate your final answers.
➢ If I cannot read your writing or follow your work, I will not grade the
problem and you will receive 0 points for that problem.
➢ DO NOT just write answers down. Answers only with no equations or work
will receive 0 points, even if your answer is correct.
➢ Attach your formula sheet to your answer script.
➢ Good luck!
1. A 500-kVA, 3-phase, 50 Hz transformer has a voltage ratio (line voltages) of 33/11 kV and is
delta/star connected. The resistances per phase are high voltage 35 Ω, low voltage 0.876 Ω and the
iron loss is 3050 W. Calculate the value of efficiency at full-load and one-half of full-load
respectively. [15 pts]
(a) at unity pf
(b) 0.8 pf

2. A 3-phase, Y-connected, 6-pole, 60Hz generator has XS =2Ω, negligible rS (stator resistance),
and Lsf = 0.4H. The machine operates at a power angle of 31.60 with a field current of 100A. The
line-to-neutral terminal voltage is 2600Vrms. [3*5 = 15 pts]
a) Find the speed of the prime mover in rad/sec
b) Determine the excitation voltage
c) Find the line current
d) Find the power consumed by the load and its power factor
e) Find the developed torque

3. A six-pole DC machine has a flux per pole of 30 mWb. The armature has 536 conductors
connected as a lap winding. The DC machine runs at 1050 rpm and it delivers a rated armature
current of 225 A to a load connected to its terminals, calculate: [3*5 = 15 pts]
a) Machine constant, Km
b) Generated voltage, EG
c) Conductor current
d) Electromagnetic torque.
e) Power delivered by the machine.

b) Compute the generator phase current (magnitude and angle)
c) Find the required excitation voltage (Ea)
d) Calculate the required field current
e) Calculate the required speed of the prime mover
6. Answer the following questions: [10*2 = 20 pts]
