QUESTION 2 40 MARKS
In January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new

coronavirus disease, COVID-19, to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. WHO

stated that there is a high risk of COVID-19 spreading to other countries around the world. In

March 2020, WHO assessed that COVID-19 could be characterized as a pandemic. WHO and

public health authorities around the world are acting to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. To

date, we neither have vaccine, nor any proven cure.

All over the world, governments are telling us to stay at home and only go outside for

food, health reasons or essential work, to stay two meters (six feet) away from other people

and wash our hands as soon as we get home. To contain the spread of Coronavirus-19 outbreak

in India, the government of India under prime minister Narendra Modi ordered a

nationwide lockdown for 21 days. This lockdown included ban on movement of the entire 1.3

billion population of India, from stepping out of their homes; all non-essential services and

shops closed except hospitals, banks, grocery shops and other essentials; closure of commercial

and private establishments (only work-from-home allowed); suspension of all educational,

training, research institutions; closure of all places of worship; suspension of all non-essential

public and private transport; and prohibition of all social, political, sports, entertainment,

academic, cultural, religious activities. Consequently, we have witnessed many challenges as

well as innovative solutions.

Please consider a social challenge (preferably from the current social context of

Coronavirus-19 outbreak), which is suitable for design thinking problem-solving approach.
