DESIGN OF STAIR WITH QUARTER SPACE LANDING

Stair hall measure 5.50 x 4.30 m

Available verical space between floor 2.50 m 2500 mm

Horizontal Span of stair case 1.40 m 1400 mm

live load 3000.00 N/m2

Risers 0.15 m 150 mm

Treads 0.30 m 300 mm

1 Genral arrngment:-

Fig. shows plan of stair hall.

2 Design Constants:- For HYSD Bars Cocrete M = 20

sst = = 230 N/mm2 wt. of concrete = 25000 N/mm2

scbc = = 7 N/mm3 m = 13.33

13.33
m*c x 7
k= = = 0.289
13.33
m*c+sst x 7 + 230

j =1-k/3 = 1 - 0.289 / 3 = 0.904

R =1/2xc x j x k = 0.5 x 7 x 0.904 x 0.289 = 0.913

3 Effective span :-

Asume 200 mm bearing in the walls .

Effective span of fleight AB = 3.00 + 1.40 + 0.1 = 4.50 m

Effective span of fleight BC = 0.1 + 1.40 + 1.50 + 0.00 + 0.1 = 3.10 m

Thus, for design purpose we take maximum span = 4.50 m

3 Loading Each Flight :-

Let the thickness of waist slab '= 4.50 x 40 = 200 mm

\Weight of slab w' on slope = 0.2 x 1 x 1.40 x 25000 = 7000 per m run

Dead weight of horizontal area w1= w' x = 7000 x 7826 N/m2

Dead weight of step is w = x x 25000 = 788 N/m
2 1000
x 1000

\ weight w2 of step per horizontal metre run x 1000 / 300 = 2625 N

= 788

150
Alternatively, w2 = x 1 x 1.40 x ### = 2625 N
2x1000

\ Total Dead weight per meter run 7826 + 2625 = 10451 N

Weight of fiishing etc. = 150 N

live load 1.40 x 3000 = 4200

Total weight per horizontal metre run = 14801 N

Design of Flight BC :-
4

Landing B is common to both the flight.

1
Hence w for landing B = x 14801 = 7401 N/m
2

While w for landing C will be taken as = 14801 N/m. The loading, B.M.D. and S.F.D. are shown in fig 2.

1 7401 x 1.50 x 1.50

Reaction Rc = x + 14801 x 3.00 x 3.00 = 31452
4.50 2

Reaction Rb = 7401 x 1.50 + 14801 x 3.00 - 31452 = 24052

S.F. is zero at distance = 31452 / 14801 = 2.125 m from c

B.M. will be maximum where S.F. is zero

### x 2.125 2
Mmax = 31452 x 2.125 - 1000 = 33417883 N-mm
2

Breadth b of slab for design = 1.50 m. or 1500 mm

ÖBM 33417883
Effective depth required = = = 156 mm
Rxb
0.913 x 1500

But available = 156 + mm say mm

cover = 25 = 181 = 180

Hence used 10 mm F bars = 107 mm c/c

Hence used 8 mm F bars = 230 mm c/c

The same reinforcement may be provided for both flight. At the landing, provide reinforcement both at top
as well as at bottom, the detail of reinforcement are shown in fig 3.
