An american said “I consider Moldova one of the best kept secrets on earth” and this makes

us to think about the beauty and values of our country.

The treasure of the Moldova is represented by it’s culture. Firs of all, abou culture, I like folk
art, beause of fiery-spirited dances and songs. The dancers move about to the accompaniment
of bagpipes, flutes and violins. The Joc Dance Ensemble is a source of national pride.

Sencondly, we are proud with our musicians, Maria Biesu the best Madam Butterfly of the
world, opera singer Mihail Munteanu, composer Eugeniu Doga. For example, Doga's waltz “My
Sweet and Tender Beast”was used twice in the Olympic Games opening ceremonies

Thirdly, Moldova is known for superior quality of wines, and it is rumored that the wine 'Kagor' is a favorite of the Queen
of England. As example of moldovan superiority in this domain is the underground galleries from Cricova, being the
largest wine cellar in Europe, and Mileștii Mici – the largest wine cellar in the world by number of bottels.

All in all, I can say, that I am proud with my country and as someone says “Moldova is a place you will never find
somewhere else, is like a drug – once you go there you want to go again.”

The Moldovan folklore has a strong basis of Dacian-Latin origin and embraces a system of
popular confessions and customs, which are specifically defined by means of music and
dance, oral poetry and prose, mythology, rites, popular theatre etc. This cultural inheritance in
all its manifestations represents a large area of national art of special value, which not only
preceded its cultural forms but also continued to develop in the modern era conferring to the
professional culture its ethnical originality.

The country’s folk traditions and costumes are highly valued at a national level, and preserved
in the capital’s museums, its Republic Dance Company and its choir, Doina, as well as forming
part of every Moldovan celebration. For example The Colinda Christmas tradition of masked
and costumed singers, musicians and dancers going from door to door to give performances
and receive gifts bears a resemblance to the Christian tradition of carolling, but is rooted in
pre-Christian pagan practices.

Famous musicians include the composer Eugeniu Dogha and singer Maria Bieshu, who is said by some to have been the
best Madam Butterfly ever. Opera singer Michail Munteanu is well known in Europe.

Winemaking is a long standing tradition, and an important part of Moldavian life. The country is home to some of the
largest vineyards in Europe. Many Moldavian wines and cognacs are of superior quality, and it is rumored that the wine
'Kagor' is a favorite of the Queen of England. Carpet weaving is another fine craft, and Moldavian carpets are well sought
after in international markets.
