Ans1).Industrial management is the branch of engineering that deals with the creation and management
of systems that integrate people and materials and energy in productive ways. It helps in designing the
layout of plan, allocation of factory etc. Techniques of management strategically used in an industry
leads to the development of industrial management.

Ans 2) Industrial management deals with people in industry, material and energy leading towards
production growth whereas production management deals with the job of coordinating and controlling
the activities required to make a product, typically involving effective control of scheduling, cost,
performance, quality, and waste requirements.

Ans1) The Industrial Revolution was a period from the 18th to the 19th century where major changes in
agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transport, and technology had a profound effect on the
socioeconomic and cultural conditions starting in the United Kingdom, then subsequently spreading
throughout Europe, North America, and eventually the world. Taylor, Fayol, Gantt, Gilbreth’s and many
more have made their contribution in transforming the industrial management.

Neoclassical organizational theories added on to classical organizational theories by placing more
importance on human relations and behavioral sciences. They modified, added and extended the
classical theories by realizing that management exists in a social system wherein human factors have
cognizant roles to perform. Two approaches of neoclassical theories are Human Relations Theory and
Behavioral Science Theory.

Ans2) Individual ownership or sole proprietorship is the oldest and the most common form of business. It
is a one-man organization where a single individual owns, manages and controls the business.

Partnership form of business: The Indian Partnership Act, 1932 is an act enacted by the Parliament of
India to regulate partnership firms in India. It received the assent of the Governor-General on 8 April
1932 and came into force on 1 October 1932. Before the enactment of this act, partnerships were
governed by the provisions of the Indian Contract Act. The act is administered through the Ministry of
Corporate Affair.

Ans1) Yes, I agree.Systems theory is the interdisciplinary study of systems in general, with the goal of
elucidating principles that can be applied to all types of systems at all nesting levels in all fields of
research. The term does not yet have a well-established, precise meaning, but systems theory can
reasonably be considered a specialization of systems thinking, a generalization of systems science, a
systems approach. In this context the word systems is used to refer specifically to self-regulating
systems, i.e. that are self-correcting through feedback.

If organization is a system it does have many sub- systems which are too an extent self regulating in
form of various departments.

Ans 2 Esprit de Corps -This refers to the need of managers to ensure and develop morale in the
workplace; individually and communally. Team spirit helps develop an atmosphere of mutual trust and
understanding.

Scalar Chain-It refers to the chain of superiors ranging from top management to the lowest rank. The
principle suggests that there should be a clear line of authority from top to bottom linking all managers at
all levels. It is considered a chain of command. It involves a concept called a "gang plank" using which a
subordinate may contact a superior or his superior in case of an emergency, defying the hierarchy of
control.

Subordination of Individual Interest-The management must put aside personal considerations and put
company objectives first. Therefore the interests of goals of the organization must prevail over the
personal interests of individual.

Stability of Tenure of Personnel-The period of service should not be too short and employees should not
be moved from positions frequently. An employee cannot render useful service if he is removed before
he becomes accustomed to the work assigned to him.

The distinction between a public company and a private company are explained in the following
manner:
1. Minimum number of members-The minimum number of person required to form a public company is
seven, whereas in a private company their number is only two.
2. Maximum number of members-There is no limit on the maximum number of member of a public
company, but a private company cannot have more than fifty members excluding past and present
employees.
3. Commencement of Business-A private company can commence its business as soon as it is
incorporated. But a public company shall not commence its business immediately unless it has been
granted the certificate of commencement of business.
4. Invitation to public-A public company by issuing a prospectus may invite public to subscribe to its
shares whereas a private company cannot extend such invitation to the public.
5. Transferability of shares-There is no restriction on the transfer of share In the case of public company
whereas a private company by its articles must restrict the right of members to transfer the share.

A cooperative society is an autonomous association of persons who voluntarily cooperate for their
mutual social, economic, and cultural benefit. Cooperatives include non-profit community organizations
and businesses that are owned and managed by the people who use its services (a consumer cooperative)
or by the people who work there (a worker cooperative) or by the people who live there (a housing
cooperative).

modification to reduce the physical and psychological stress. Gilbreth concluded that as a result of several motion
studies conducted that any work can be done by using a combination of 17 basic motions called therbligs.
Therbligs comprises the system for analyzing the motions involved in performing a task.

Ans1) Production planning is the deterministic phase of production management. It figure out what is to be done.
Planning translate sales forecast into master production schedule, it also determines the maintaining os raw
material and finished goods at properlevel. Control balances the production and inventoriesapart from the
deterministic phase of planning.Production control supervises the execution of production schedule so that work
flows through the manufacturing departments on time and without interruption. [2+3 =5 Marks]

Ans 2 Process charts are of three types:


a) Outline process chart
b) Two handed process charts
c) Flow process charts:
1) Material flow chart
2) Manflow chart
3) Equipment flow chart

Flow process Chart: It is a graphic representation of the sequence of operations, transportations,


inspection, delays and storages occurring during a process.
Two handed process chart: This chart records the activities of both the hands of an operator moving or
static in relation to one another.
Outline process charts: Provides a chronological sequence of all activities and materials involved in the
manufacture of a product or sub assembly. [2+5 =7 Marks]

Ans 3

Time study attempts to find out the amount of work that a qualified operator, properly trained, can do in
a given time. The operator must do the work according to certain method, under certain condition and at
certain pace that will produce a certain physical reaction. Steps in time study:
1) Define objective of the study
2) Analyse the operation to determine whether standard method and condition exist and whether the
operator is properly trained.
3) Select operator to be studied if there is more than one operator doing the same job.
4) Record information about the standard method, operations, operator, produc, equioment.
Uses of time study:
1) No. of machines tools needed.
2) Manufacturing cost and selling price.
3) Sheduling and delivery criteria.
4) Determine the worker performances and identify the problem areas.
